Macro Monday – Snow on the Fir

It’s time for Macro Monday!!  This week, I chose a picture from a couple weeks ago when we had so much snow.  We were supposed to have a “dusting” to an inch and ended up with 6″.  I don’t like winter or snow, but it sure does make for nice photography!!

Here’s my Macro Monday….

Foto Finish: Icy Weather

Commotion from the Ocean of Life

Welcome back to Foto Finish!!  This week’s (optional) theme is weather.  I chose this topic because it seems to be the story all over the US and I think even other countries are having to deal with it this year.

We’ve had more snow and ice here so far this winter than any that I’ve lived here.  In early December, we had an ice storm.  Made for great photos, but I’d rather not have it!!  Here’s my submission for this week’s Foto Finish….

Macro: Encased in Ice

Shine the Divine

MM2badgeintrofinal_zps09e45e9a

This has been one of the coldest winters we’ve had since I’ve lived here.  That’s like 20 years now!!  Typically, we have a little snow or ice, but it’s usually in the new year.  We’ve of course, had snow and ice in December, but not like this year.  In December, we not only had snow (a couple times), but we had an ice storm as well.  This is a little bud that I found encased in the ice.

Here’s my Macro Monday and I Heart Macro (click to enlarge)…..

MacroMonday - Encased in ice

6 Weeks Down

I can’t believe that 6 weeks have already passed.  Time sure is flying!!  It’s been such a mild winter that I can even imagine spring just around the corner.  Boy will I be happy too!!  Since I started losing weight, I’m cold all the time.  I mean, a girl really counts on that blubber to keep her warm all winter long!!  HAHA

I’d love to tell you how much weight I’ve lost since the surgery, but I’ve honestly lost track.  I believe it to be between 25 to 30 pounds.  This week I stayed exactly the same….not up nor down.  The week prior, I lost 4 lbs rather quickly.  It’s alright with me that I slowed down again.  I really want my body to keep up with the weight loss.  I need for my exercising to keep me toned and not muscled.  I definitely don’t need the added weight of muscle!!  I want to look good….healthy….not buff.

Despite the great weather, I haven’t been able to get out and get any new photos.  I am going to be working in my flower beds this weekend though.  No, I’m not planting yet.  They just need all the winter debris removed and the dirt roughed up so they’re ready for spring planting.

My parents came to visit last weekend and we had a great time.  The only problem is that it went by way too fast!!  Unfortunately, I have an aunt and uncle that are both very sick right now.  It’s my mom’s oldest sister and her husband.  He also happens to be my dad’s best friend since they were kids.  What are the chances on marrying sisters, huh!?!?  I’m worried about them and am just praying for their health and peace.  I also found out tonight that my mom’s youngest sister’s husband is in the hospital too.  Such is life in an aging family.  I remember them all when they were MY age!!

Well, I think that gets you all caught up again.  I know, I still haven’t gotten into a routine to blog more often.  Still working on that one, but I’m thrilled to not be stuck at the computer all day!!  I hope that you all are well, my faithful readers.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you all are up to.

First up is 2 sets of puzzle cards.  The first is Froggy Catching Fly Count 0-25 Puzzle Cards.  These feature cute frogs attempting to catch 0-25 flies.  Match the number of flies to the number word.  Then there’s Froggy Colors, which has a wide variety of colors.  Use them all for older kids and the basics for smaller kids.  Both of these sets include a storage envelope for the pieces.  You can find them here.

For all you “The Little Mermaid” fans, I’ve got several things for you!!  There’s a The Little Mermaid Tic-Tac-Toe that has a pretty game board and several player tokens.  There’s also a storage envelope for all the pieces.  The Little Mermaid & Friends Shape Match are 2-piece puzzle cards.  Match Ariel’s shape to the shape words that her friends have.  For beginning writers, there’s The Little Mermaid’s Alphabet Tracing Cards.  Each card features a character from the movie along with tracing each letter in upper and lower case, 3 times.  The Little Mermaid’s Counting 0-20 Puzzle Cards have Ariel with the numeral, that number of her friends, and the number word all as pieces that fit to make a completed puzzle card.  There’s also a storage envelope with this one.  Finally, there’s The Little Mermaid’s Follow the Pattern.  These are pattern cards where there is a pattern, then it is followed below.  Also includes a storage envelope for all the pattern pieces.    You can find all these in “The Little Mermaid” folder.  **PLEASE NOTE:  The Little Mermaid character © Walt Disney – I in no way lay claim to ownership of the characters, graphics, movie, or anything else pertaining to “The Little Mermaid” or Walt Disney.**

For our spring weather, there’s Rain Gear Match-Up.  The pattern/texture is matched for the raincoat, boots, hat, and umbrella on the rain gear mat.  Lots of varieties of patterns/textures and also the rain gear.  For those that might still be experiencing cold weather, there’s also Winter Clothing Match-Up.  The coat, scarf, hat, and mittens with matching patterns/textures are placed on the winter mat.

Here’s a collage of just a few things I’m offering for Miscellaneous Monday, but remember this isn’t everything named above!!  So here’s your peak….

I think that’s about all for today!!  I warned you that it was quite the mix of things and very miscellaneous.  I hope that you and the kids enjoy them!!

As always, I’d appreciate it if you clicked on one….or all….of the buttons below to vote/rate my blog.  Also, your comments are greatly appreciated!!  By doing either or both of those things, it lets me know that my printables are being used and that I’m creating things that people need.  Therefore, I use it all as input and it helps me to be able to keep offering these items.  Thanks in advance!!

Foto Finish: Weather

Foto Finish

This week’s Foto Finish is weather.  I was sort of excited that this was the topic today.  Yet, I didn’t know what in the world I was going to do.  I don’t have any brand new winter weather pictures despite 2 really bad snow storms and freezing weather this year.  I was just plain too cold to go out snapping pictures!!

I decided I’d revert back to one of my older photos.  This was taken a couple years ago when we had a tremendous ice storm.  Everything was coated in ice and was so shiny when the sun hit it.  I loved the effect of the ice on this bush.

Here’s my Foto Finish….

What weather pictures do you have??  Perhaps you have a sunny day or some storm clouds.  Whatever you have weather related, just post your photos and click the button above to join in on Foto Finish!!

Arctic Blast

As with most of the U.S. we’ve been hit by an arctic blast.  Yesterday was COLD and today at it’s warmest was going to be 32 degrees.  That means not even over freezing!!  I must say that we’ve had it alright though.  I’m not going to complain at all!!  Sunday, my parents had lots of snow.  On Monday, when our first female governor was sworn in on the capital steps, the snow was falling.  We’re running the water at night with temps in the teens and single digits, but the insulation in the attic has already paid for itself!!

To go along with this arctic blast that we’re having, I wanted to share some printables.  It’s also a popular theme in schools right now.  Hopefully these few offerings will help out a little and I’m still wanting to make more!!

I have a few card games for those of you snowed in or just studying arctic/polar themes right now.  The first item is some Arctic Animals Pattern Match.  These are 2-part cards working on patterning skills.  The patterning on the arctic animal is matched to the patterning on it’s iceberg.  If you’re interested in this….

I also made 2 sets of memory match cards.  Both sets of these cards are matching pattern/texture.  The first one is Arctic Pattern Match where the pattern/texture of the Eskimo is matched to the pattern/texture of the igloo they live in.  The second one is Penguin & Iceberg Memory Match.  I was asked to make a set that was a “harder” than the first set to match, so I came up with these.  The pattern/texture in the tummy of the penguin is matched to the iceberg it lives on.  The tough part is, all the patterns/textures are snowflakes!!  If you’re interested in either set or both sets of these memory match cards….

If you use my printables or enjoy seeing what I create posted, please rate my blog at one or all of the sites listed below. I truly appreciate your support and it just lets me know that you use and need the materials that I create.

Blizzard in OK

Yes, you’re reading that heading right….it says “blizzard in OK”.  When I woke up this morning, I could hear the wind whipping and a soon as I looked out the window, I could see the snow swirling.  It was amazing!!

I hadn’t seen snow like this since I left Wisconsin.  Well, I guess we had some in Germany, but we didn’t have any real blizzards.  We were forecast bad weather, but nothing like this.  In fact, they said our chance of snow had lessened, but the cold would be extreme.  Looks like both are extreme!!

The roads covered fast.  I started getting worried early about the man.  I started calling his cell phone knowing that he wouldn’t answer.  I was determined to just keep calling because sooner or later, he’d walk past his tool box and hear it or go on break and see that I’d called.  When he finally answered, I told him I didn’t care what he had to do, including taking vacation time, but I wanted him home.  What’s normally a 15 minute trip took him close to an hour.  He said the patches of ice under the drifting snow were horrible.  They  made him take vacation time, even though Ft. Sill was closed to all non-essential personnel.  I think that’s wrong, but I can live with it because he made it home safely and is where he belongs.

We watched the snow build most of the afternoon.  By the time it started tapering off around 3pm, some of the drifts were over my knees.  The average depth of snow was past my ankles.  We don’t have an accurate measurement yet.  I’d have to say 4-6″ though.  I know there’s drifts higher than what’s in our yard and those are high enough.  Roads aren’t drivable, but you still see people trying to get out.  You also see lots of reports on tv about them in drifts or stalled along the road!!  Now what could be so important to go out in the worst weather we’ve had in 20 years??  NOthing if you ask me!!

Every church in town has cancelled their masses for tonight and many have already cancelled tomorrow.  Our church wasn’t listed, so I had kiddo call and tell Father that she couldn’t be alter server.  There’s no way we were going out on these roads just so she could serve.  We can find our own way at home to serve the Lord!!

Well I hope that you and yours are all safe and warm.  Nothing like a cup of hot cocoa and the twinkling lights while waiting for Santa to arrive.  I’ll share some pictures after I get them all downloaded.  With that I say…..

Merry Christmast to all, and to all a good night!!

Rain

200236712-001

Yes, after a long hot summer, rain has finally come to OK!!  The temperature is perfect and the rain is falling.  It’s not storming….NO thunder….NO lightening.  It’s just an all-day rain.  We so desperately need this and God has answered the farmer’s prayers.  It’s so glorious!!

Of course, there’s a complaint that goes with it.  They’re calling for this rain most of the week.  Now I don’t like that.  I gotta have a little sunshine in my life.  I don’t need any cabin fever because before I know it, winter will be here.

So please God, a few rays of sunshine between all these raindrops!!

Weather

We actually didn’t have any rain yesterday or today.  The only problem is that now that the sun is out, it’s too humid to breath.  Humidity isn’t common here.  When it is, it’s just miserable.  Many people that live here think it’s humid, but I just laugh in at them.  I tell them that they’ve obviously never lived in Houston or Savannah.  If they had, they’d know what humid was.  PLEASE!!  What we get here is NOT humidity!!  HAHA

We were so far behind on rain, that it’s hard to complain about all the rain we’ve gotten.  It just gets old being so gloomy.  Mom and Dad haven’t had much peace in weather since the tornado hit their town last month.  Dad had a long drive home in the rain on Tuesday.  They’re still getting it too.  When I talked to Mom tonight, they have storm warnings all night long.  I heard Dad in the background saying that they’ll probably be woke up in the middle of the night.

So what’s the weather like in your neck of the woods??

UPDATE:

We just had a storm roll through.  It was bad all around us much of the night.  I heard loud thumps in the roof, so I went to the front door and looked out.  I ran to wake up K and The Man.  We were in the middle of a hail storm.  Not just hail, but BIG hail!!  We had full golfball sized hail coming down for quite awhile.  When it passed, we went out to get a couple pieces of it.  We put them in the freezer and I’ll try to remember to take pictures in the morning.  My car was in the garage and it looks like luckily there’s no damage to hubby’s car.  We’ll check more closely in the daylight.  GOLFBALLS in the middle of the night!!  SHEESH

Getting Caught Up

We had a GREAT visit with my Dad.  He arrived on Friday and just left this morning.  His drive home was quite long and tiring due to rain the whole trip.  I can’t believe that I was able to have my Dad for Mother’s Day.  What a treat!!  He was bored sitting at home in this gloomy weather.  We had planned on doing more with him, but the weather didn’t cooperate with us here either.  We still managed to keep him busy and entertained….and well fed!!  HEHE

I’ll be working off and on the rest of this evening to get my blog posts caught up.  I started something almost everyday he was here, but didn’t get them posted.  I’ll do my best to complete that process, so be sure to check back for older dated posts!!

Days of Spring

Just yesterday morning, we woke up to a light dusting of snow on the ground.  Friday it got incredibly cold with storms that turned to sleet.  Yesterday was just plain cold.  The wind was whipping across the plains and you’d think it was still winter.  The sun came out, but there was a definite chill in the air.

Today was one of the most beautiful spring days you could imagine.  When we went to church, it was cool, but nice.  The sun was shining and it was so bright.  By the time we came out of church, it was glorious.  You didn’t even need a coat.  It’s like the ideal temperature.

Just a day apart and such a contrast.  Is it any wonder that so many people are sick!?!?  So what’s it like where you are??
