The focus of these pages are geared toward Catholic, as I used the New American Standard Bible (NASB). Any faith surely can use it though!!

Nativity Printables

Those of you who follow my blog know that I love to post about printable nativities. This year is no exception!!

Nativity-Play

I didn’t think that I had many new or fresh ideas this year.  It seems like most of what’s out there, I’ve already posted in previous years.  If you’re looking for those previous posts, just search “nativity”.  That’ll pull up (or at least it should pull up) other posts about the nativity.

Here’s a free nativity paper craft.  It’s the Paper Nativity by Daniel Swartz.  I think this one is pretty fun and simple to do for kids of all ages.  I’ve blogged about this one before, but my daughter did it this year with her 3rd grade class and they loved it, so I just had to share again.  It’s the Nativity Scene (Joyfully Expanded) from Made by Joel.  Here’s a printable nativity scene for The Birth of Lord Jesus.  This one is a free nativity stencil pattern.  You can also download a free manger scene for Advent if you click here.  It’s from Sisters of St. Joseph/Good Ground Press and has a short form to fill out to access the download.

I don’t remember if I’ve shared this one or not, but it’s a DIY:  Make Your Own Nativity from Marloes de Vries.   Ministry-to-Children has this nativity playset.  You can click here for a fun Nativity Fold a House Craft.  “Build Your Own Nativity Printables” is a nativity based on basic shapes.  Last but not least, here’s a 3D manger.

I’d also like to let you know about a couple nativity printables in my stores.  I’m rather fond of them and the kids in my class have really enjoyed making and using them.  I hope that you’ll check them out.  First is the title, then the link to TPT, and then the link to Teachers Notebook.

That’s all that I have for you right now.  I hope that you enjoy all the free printable nativities and that you’ll check out my shops to see what I have to help keep “Jesus is the reason for the season”!!

Creation Story Wheel

I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’ve been uploading several resources to my store. I’ve also just been participating in life!! It’s been awhile since I’ve offered any freebies, but now’s my chance.

We’re back to religious education as of last week. It was hectic, so I really didn’t have anything to share. This week however, we’re learning about creation. This is the project that I’m working on with my little ones….

TheDaysOfCreation StoryWheel byElaine@TheSchoolhouse 1SAMPLE

This story wheel is actually 2 wheels under one cover “wheel”. The first is to select the day of creation and the second is to identify what was created on that day. This project is perfect for learning or reviewing the days of creation.

I’be listed this for free at The Schoolhouse on TPT. If you’re interested in using this project for your class, just click to be taken to the….

Ash Wednesday Fun and Learning

Last night’s lesson was all about Ash Wednesday and how it’s the first day of Lent.  Advent and Lent are always interesting concepts to teach the kids when it’s all about “waiting” and “preparing”.  At their age, they’re just ready for Santa and the Easter Bunny.  They soak up the information like sponges!!

AshWednesday-Ashes byElaineG 1SAMPLE

After our discussion about Lent, we focused on Ash Wednesday and did this activity page.  Since we attend mass as part of class on Ash Wednesday, it’s important the kids know all about the ashes so they know what to expect.  After that, we practiced for mass….several times!!  Our final activity was a little craft that I made for the kids.  They colored the pictures to look like themselves and then we took black paint and put a cross on the foreheads with their thumb.

If you’re interested in this, just click to….

To see the a few of the final projects, just click here to see them on Instagram.  You don’t have to have an account and it’s worth it because they’re just adorable for being 3-5 years old!!

God Made Me and I Am Special

We’re finally done with creation and it’s 2-week lessons.  Now, we’re moving on to “God made me/I am special”.

This year, I wanted to do something really fun and special for this lesson.  I knew that if I was going to implement something new, I’d have to have it be our craft project.  I searched and I searched and I couldn’t find a thing that I wanted to do.  Finally, I clicked way back in the search results instead of what was right in front of me.  Low and behold, I found it!!  What I found was a handprint poem, but it wasn’t Christian based, so I knew I had to dig further.  Finally, I found it!!

I made a frame and put the Christian handprint poem in it.  I printed it on cardstock and was on my way to class.  I picked out 3 colors of paint to let the kids decide which they wanted to use.  I put a small amount of the paint on paper plates and they placed their hand on it and then on the cardstock inside the frame and above the poem.  For each student, I put the paint on the paper plate to avoid mess!!  I used the vertical one for my class, but have included 2 other horizontal ones and each features a different poem.

Here’s a thumbnail view of the framed poems…..

Poems are by “Unknown” and from an internet source.

If you’d like to download this handprint craft, just…..

I hope that you enjoy this craft project.  If I change anything ever in the future, it’ll be to add their name and date within the frame, however, I simply wrote it on the back so the parents can frame as is.  My class really had fun with this one!!

The Creation Mini-Book

Our first Religious Education (CCD) class was last night.  It was a great class!!  I have 10 kids and 1 of them was absent.  The class is split in half….5 boys and 5 girls!!  Our first lesson was Creation (and I continue it next week with Adam & Eve).

I made this mini-book for my class to do.  It’s a simple one to start the year off.  Each page has a coloring image.  There’s also a verse (from NAS) that they can read or if they’re too small, can be read together as a class.  I also did word tracing for each day of creation.

Here’s a thumbnail view of some of the minibook…..

Clipart is from WPClipart.com and is used with permission.

If you’d like to download this desk set, just…..

I hope that you enjoy this mini-book.  My class sure did!!  I plan to make more mini-books in the future as well.  What else would you like to see??

Oh Holy Night Number Strip Puzzles

It’s time for Nativity A Day and the 18th posting of it!!  Yes, that means that there’s only 2 more to go and I’ve still missed 3 of them.  I think I did anyways.  I’ll have to go back and count again because one day I missed, but the next day I did a double.  If I only counted that as 1, then it should actually be 2 and I’ll have only missed 2.  Time to count!!  HAHA

On with the Nativity A Day for today though.  I have a pretty big variety of number strip puzzles.  Some are horizontal and some are vertical.  There’s one for counting 0-12 and one for 1-10.  There’s also 2 for skip counting by 5 and 10 and one each of skip counting by 2 and 3.  I love all the images that I used and I used a variety of fonts.  We all know about my font addiction!!  HAHA

Nativity, What Do You See? Mini-Book

Today is the 16th posting of Nativity A Day and after a couple busy days this weekend of not being able to post it, I’m back on track!!  I’m really proud of this one and so happy with how it turned out.

Today’s Nativity A Day is a mini-book called Nativity, What Do You See? and it’s based on the Brown Bear, Brown Bear concept.  I recommend printing the cover on card stock and the pages on paper.  The pages of can be printed front and back to save on paper, or printed off separately by the sheet.  The cover is slightly larger than the pages, so they should tuck in nicely and then be stapled close to the fold to hold them in.

NOTE:  I just printed the book out and I should have been more specific in the directions.  The back of each page should be printed upside down so that when it’s lifted to be read, it’s facing down and goes into the next page.  I know this doesn’t make much sense because I’m not good at describing, but take my word!!  So, if you print all the top pages, then flip them over upside down and print the backs.  Or, if your printer is like mine and does front/back printing, have it flip in the short edge instead of the long edge.  Hope this helps!!

Here’s a thumbnail view of some of the mini-book pages…..

If you’re interested in downloading the mini-book, please just…..

UPDATE:  Being a mom of 1, I know that printing the other book is quite a bit of extra paper and ink.  So, I created another book, just for ONE!!  It’s identical to the other book, but just one book prints out per page, instead of two.  Be sure to read above about printing front and back so that when the pages are turned up, they can read without having flip the book over.  I have printed this out and it works great!!  You can find the new Nativity, What Do You See? mini-book for one here.

Nativity Pre-Writing Practice

Today is the 15th post in Nativity A Day and it’s for little ones.

Today’s Nativity A Day is pre-writing practice sheets.  There’s 4 pages for different stages.  First off is strait lines and they get thinner with smaller dashes as you go down the page.  Next is some strait lines with a curve and square edge tracing.  The next page is different sizes of curves and the last page is different sizes of square edges.
