The Natvity Around the House: Day 4 and Day 5

I missed a day, so I’m doing “day4” and “day 5” of the Nativity Parade.  Since these are my final 2 for this year, I’ve picked out a couple of my favorites.  I won’t be doing The Nativity Around the House tomorrow since it’ll be Christmas day.  I hope that you enjoy my nativities!!

First up is a special nativity.  I’ve had this one for 21 years!!  We got it our first year in Germany.  This is just a cute little set that I’m totally attached to.  Yes, there’s only 1 wiseman….and maybe that’s part of what makes it unique.  So here is the little German nativity….

The next nativity is a definite favorite of mine.  I’m one of those that fully believes that Jesus IS the Reason for the Season.  However, I also believe in Santa.  I don’t think that there is anything wrong with that jolly man with the white beard and red suit.  There’s nothing wrong with receiving presents from a man that rides in a sleigh pulled by reindeer.  That just one of the fun parts of Christmas.  After all, Jesus received 3 very special gifts on the day he was born….and Santa delivers 3 very special gifts to our house.  Therefore, this nativity is the perfect balance of both!!  This is called “Kneeling Santa” and it is Santa kneeling next to the baby Jesus in the manger with a few of the stable animals.  So here is my “Kneeling Santa” and the most beautiful balance of both Christmas worlds….

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my final 2 nativities for this year.  I have so many more that I could have done, but that just leaves next year for me to do this again!!  If you’ve enjoyed my nativities, just like reading my blog, or even downloading my printables, I hope that you’d consider voting for my blog by clicking the button in the right hand column under “Rate My Blog”.

The Nativity Around the House: Day 3

I took yesterday off from displaying my nativities, but I’m back today!!  The nativity that I’m sharing today is….

This particular one has deep rich colors.  I don’t always think that photos do justice to certain items!!  HAHA  Anyway, it has a bronzing effect….or maybe it’s more goldish.  I’m not sure why it looks so white-washed, other than maybe the flash.  The part that caught my attention most about this nativity is that a tea light candle fits in the back and sets the whole thing gently aglow.  Here it is in candlelight….

So that’s my nativity of the day, so to speak.  I’m sure I’ll be back tomorrow with another one from my collection.  I told you when I started this that I had enough to do one a day….each day….until Christmas!!  That’s no joke, and I could do it again next year and NOT repeat!!  HAHA

The Nativity Around the House: Day 2

I have something fun to share with you today, along with nativity that I’m displaying for 2010 Nativity Parade.  This is a fun “modern” nativity that was shared with me today and I just had to re-share it.  It brought an instant smile to my face…..and as you all know, I’m not fond of cell phones!!  Sit back and watch the “modern” nativity…..

Now for one of my nativities that’s on display in my house this year.  This is actually one that is newly acquired…!!  My 3 goddaughters came over today and I printed this out and they each colored and decorated their own.  I didn’t leave my daughter out though (of course), she was right by their side!!

So, my nativity for today is…..

Nativity Craft by Miss K

Miss K and I really worked on this together today.  It’s mainly her project though, and I think she did a great job.  Her medium of choice today was colored pencils.  I added glitter to the 3 gifts, Mary, baby Jesus, the stars, and backdrop.  The backdrop didn’t quite turn out the way I expected, but I think it’s because the glue was too old and thick.  Once I changed to a new bottle for the rest of the project, it worked fine.

My 3 goddaughters are here today and also did this nativity craft project.  I had all 3 of them at the table coloring, cutting and gluing!!  It took most of the day, but they had a good time and their nativities turned out great.  You can see their slide show here.  They’ll be taking them home when they leave and hopefully mom will treasure them as much as I did my time with them and having some crafty holiday fun!!

As for the nativity craft itself, I got it off a web site.  You can also get a “Make Your Own Nativity Scene” to do with your kids or holiday guests.  I highly recommend printing it on cardstock.  I did kiddo’s on cardstock and the 3 girls on paper.  Theirs turned out well, but K’s is much firmer and balanced.  Also, before you glue the pieces together, pre-form the pieces.  Then, use a paint brush to brush the glue on and get it tacky, after which you can glue them together.

One final picture of our finished nativity scene….

The Nativity Around the House: Day 1

I saw this great post called 2010 Nativity Parade at Crap I’ve Made and instantly knew that was the “parade” for me!!  The nativity is probably my favorite part of Christmas.  I don’t know if it was my mom or dad that gave me the love that I have for the nativity, but I love to use it to decorate my house.  I decided to participate in this “parade” and show off a portion, of my nativity collections.  YES, I did say a portion!!  From now until Christmas Eve, I’ll post a nativity that’s around my house each day.  I’ll still have enough left to do this again next year!!  HAHA  Some of the nativities that I have are kept up year round.

So without further ado, today’s featured nativity…..

We call this our “nativity tree”.  Miss K and I made this on Lean Green’s last tour to Iraq.  I don’t like to go up in the attic where the Christmas stuff is stored, but I do when forced.  This particular time, I couldn’t find all our decorations, tree, and so on.  I suggested to my little girl that we make our own and make it special.  She was all for it!!  I got the pre-lit tree at Lowe’s and the clay pot at Hobby Lobby.  I probably got all the decorations there too.  The nativity scene are all miniture (tree) decorations.  K helped me to paint the pot.  We let it sit over night to dry good.  I then hot glued the garland around the rim and K decided where the berries and bells went.  Hindsight is 20/20, but looking at it now, I probably should have painted the rim a sandy tan color and the night sky is midnight blue and filled with glitter stars.  The top, which is actually the base, is crowned with the North Star and an angel.  The nativity scene goes all the way around the pot.  It was Miss K’s idea to split up the wisemen because she thought it was too “cluttered”!!  After that sat over night to dry and harden, I inserted a huge piece of craft foam inside the pot and hot glued it.  I then inserted the tree (stem) into the hole at the top (which should be the base of the pot).  Oh, and more hot glue all over the “stem” as I inserted it.  It’s held up all these years and is no worse for the wear!!

You can see a slideshow of the view all the way around the pot.

So there’s our “nativity tree”.  I don’t put it up every year.  I thought it was important to go up this year because K informed me that the year we made this was her “best Christmas ever”.  That makes me so happy and proud, because I did it on my own and she’s never forgotten it.  It was a special year, despite hubby being gone.  We made the best of the situation, and had the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!

Merry Christmas!!

This is one of my favorite times of the year.  Things have been so busy, but it’s been a good busy.  No matter how hectic, I know that there’s a definite reason and purpose.  It all culminates on ONE very special day.

Although we’re still digging out here, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all my family, friends, and readers a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!  I hope that each of you has a blessed day and that you enjoy your day, no matter how you spend it.  I know that our turkey is already cooking and soon I’ll be putting the ham in the oven.  We’ll spend the day talking, looking at our presents 100 times and just bask in the day together.

And please, no matter what you do today or how you spend the day….

The Nativity Story

I have been looking for printable craft projects for kiddo and I to do for Christmas.  I also want an easy printable nativity scene to do with my religion class.  I started looking and I was amazed at how many I found and for the most part, they’re really good.  I plan on sharing all that I found in this post!!

The first is a stand-up nativity located in the right column.  There’s also many other Bible and nativity printables listed on this page.  They’d be a great addition to any religion class or at home.  There’s also a printable nativity for a children’s school and church craft project.  It will link you to here for the black and white printable that the kids will color themselves.  There’s the beginnings of the manger scene, but I couldn’t find any other parts to it.

Next, there’s a couple different nativity dioramas in black and white or color available.  There’s also a fun mobile that can be printed and colored as well.  If you have a spare toilet paper or paper towel roll, there’s a really cute nativity scene at MakingFriends.  You have a choice of printing out the color characters or using the “Bible friends” and coloring them.  I also found some nativity scene clipart that could be used to create a nativity scene.

An idea for older kids would be to make this creche from pipe cleaners.  There’s also a nativity scene that’s more complex.  On the same site is an uncolorized version.  It’s also available in PDF if you prefer that format.  There’s also a fairly inexpensive nativity scene craft project.

There’s a make-your-own nativity scene.  I also found an online nativity scene that can be arranged and printed when it’s completed.  If you have some extra clay pots around the house, this makes a cute nativity.  Perhaps even some paper or styrofoam cups for this nativity.  Here you will find a very small nativity scene to print.

Other possibilities ideas are to do a nativity lapbook.  For little ones, you could also do a felt board story or other activities.  There’s another felt board story here.  Finally, I found a site with lots of links for the Nativity of Jesus.  These links are for coloring pages, memory verses, plays, children’s stories and more.  There’s also several links for The Nativity Story here.

I didn’t even begin to touch on the coloring pages.  That’s another post all together!!  I hope that you can find a printable craft for The Nativity Story among all these ideas.  Maybe even one that’s not printable, but uses items you might have around the house.
