My Lenten Promise Activity

I know that I’ve been away for what seems like forever.  It’s been months, in fact.  I’m back though!!  I have something for all of you, my loyal readers and followers.

MyLentenPromise byElaineG1
This is a freebie for Lent.  I know we’re now into Holy Week, so there’s not much time left to use this.  However, it’s a great activity for the religious classroom or at home with the family.  This is a set of journal pages or a writing activity.  They come in 2 types of lines for a variety of ages/grades.

You can write your promises on the lines for each aspect of Lent….prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  It can be done daily, weekly, or just once during the Lent season.

If you’re interested in this activity, please just click to….

The Good Shepherd

Last week, we worked on The Good Shepherd in my religion class.  I enjoy teaching this one to the kids to help them understand how loved we are.  We are protected by his love and his son, Jesus, died for us.

GoodShepherdSheepMatch worksheet&coloringpage byElaineG SAMPLE

I made 2 things for my class to use.  The first is a worksheet.  It’s to match Jesus and his sheep to a sheep on the page.  A line is drawn to match the 2 and then colored to match each other.  The next item is a coloring page.  It’s Jesus among the sheep with the verse from John 10:11 (NAS).

Baptism of Jesus

We’ve been having class for a couple of weeks now, but this is the first real craft that I’ve made for the kids.  I have to say that they loved it!!

BaptismOfJesus craft byElaine1 SAMPLE

This is a simple paper craft.  Once completed, the kids can put Jesus in the Jordan River with John the Baptist, dip him in the water, and baptize him.  This project does need adult supervision to cut the slit in the river.  There are complete directions and supply list included, along with the patterns.

If you’re interested in the paper craft, just click to….

You can find a picture of our finished project on Instagram here, here, and here.  Notice that we didn’t glue it on construction paper, which I really wanted to do.  I do recommend that you do it that way, as is given in the directions.

Montessori Stations

I’ve been trying to decide what printables to make for Easter.  While taking notes for the ideas that are going through my head, I found some beautiful art work for Stations of the Cross.

I decided to make some Montessori inspired 3-part cards.  Each card has the beautiful art work on it to match to the clearly marked station, along with the event.  These are quite ink intensive, but I believe that they’re well worth it.  I think these are going to be a lovely addition to a lesson on the Stations of the Cross.

Here’s a sample of the 3-part cards….

Palm Sunday Paper Craft

This coming weekend starts Holy Week with Palm Sunday.  Tonight is the night that I teach my kids about Holy Week and what a special time it is.  I’ll do Easter next week, but tonight is all about the events leading up to one of the most important days there is.

I did several “lessons” with the kids, but our main focus was this paper craft project.  It’s a simple color, cut, and paste activity.  Choose the background you’d like to use, then the pieces that go with it.  Finally, glue all the pieces to the background and add “Hosanna!” to the project.

Here’s a sample of the completed project….

Follow Me

Tonight, my lesson is about teaching the kids about prophets, disciples, and apostles.  It’s important that they know what the differences are.  Part of teaching this is the “follow me” and “fishers of men” verse.

First is a simple coloring page using either Mark and Matthew.  They are from the NAS version of the Bible, so based on the Catholic version.  Next is a paper craft perfect for multiple ages.  The kids will write their ideas on the fish on how they can become “better” disciples of Jesus.  They will then glue them to the hook (or around it) to become “fishers of men”

Here’s a sample of these 2 items….

Water Miracles

This post has been updated after we did the project!!

Tonight, my lesson is on the miracles of Jesus.  I’m focusing on “Jesus Walks on Water” and “Jesus Calms the Storm”.  I had a few activities in my books to do with the kids.  I’m sure that they’ll like the variety.

These are just a few suggestions that I have to help enhance your lesson.  After we read the story, we did this page.  This is great for littles and has a lesson for one of these miracles.  I’m a huge fan of Rainbow Publishers and have the book that these crafts come from.  I was going to do one of them, until I came up with my own.

I wanted to do a special craft project with the kids though.  I decided to do something versatile and fun.  What I ended up making could be used with either miracle.  I’m sharing the project with you in hopes that you all can use and enjoy it.  I’ll be sure to let you know what my kids think of it too!!

What I plan on doing with the kids is to tear or cut shades of blue tissue paper.  We’ll glue them down to blue or gray construction paper.  While that dries, the kids will color the pieces of this craft (boat and Jesus) and cut them out.  We’ll then glue them on top of the sea waves (tissue paper).  With this printable, I’ve included some water waves that can be printed on cardstock if you don’t want to mess with cutting/tearing tissue paper and gluing it down.

Here’s a sample that I made to show the kids of how to assemble theirs tonight….

Who Is My Neighbor?

I’m so happy to be sharing a new project with you.  I had so much fun making these!!  This is 2 activities to do with the Good Samaritan.  It of course, can be use with others but was made for that parable.

The first activity is the one that I did with my class and the kids simply loved it.  It’s a story wheel to retell the parable of the Good Samaritan.  There are 5 images to do this.  Also, I made 2 versions of the wheel.  One for littles so that they can just color, cut, and assemble.  Then there’s a version for older kids that they have to color, cut, and put them in order before they assemble it.

Lastly, there’s a sequence book.  It features helping hands covers and each event from the parable is sequenced inside the book.  There’s 6 images to do this.  I really like my activity, but I just wasn’t sure my kids were ready for it, but that’s alright because I had fun making it and I’m hoping that others can use it!!

Here’s a thumbnail view of a couple parts of these freebies….

The images are from internet sources and believed to be public domain and they’re used without profit for personal and educational purposes.  The helping hands are from MSSS Crafts and Resources for Bible Stories and they can be found here.

The Beatitudes

This week in religious education class, we’re doing the Beatitudes.  In some ways, this is hard to teach to the kids, but in other ways they get it.  As with all my lessons, I try to make them fun and something that kids at all levels in my class will understand and enjoy.

For this lesson, I chose to make a simple coloring book.  Each page contains one of the 8 Beatitudes and an image to color.  When they’re done, they get to cut out the pages and assemble their coloring book.  My kids just love getting ahold of that stapler!!

Here’s a thumbnail view of just a couple of the pages….

As a bonus, I have a blast from the past!!  In 2008, I created a simple matching game for the Beatitudes.  The bee with the reward is matched to the hive with the blessed.  If you’re interested in this file folder game, just click here to download it.  I hope that you will enjoy both these activities with your kids, but I know that I will!!

Merry CHRISTmas!!

Merry-Christmas-Nativity

Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

~Luke 2:4-7

Merry CHRISTmas to all!!
