Hear My Prayer

This past week in class, we worked on learning about prayer. It’s always such an interesting topic for my kids.

So often, they think that they can only pray kneeling.  They also think that you have to be silent when you pray.  They love finding out that they can stand up against a tree in the park and thank God for his amazing creation!!

To help them learn more about prayer, I created this prompt for them to draw their prayer….

I also have a big set of these prompts available in my stores.  There’s a total of 16 pages and it’s a great deal at $3.  It’s great for a variety of ages/grades as there’s prompts to write, draw, or do both!!  You can find this full set at…..

Welcome to the Adult World

Happy 18th Birthday

Today is my little girls 18th birthday!! I can’t believe how fast time has gone.  She’s an amazing girl woman who brings joy to everyone that she touches.  She has a smile that brightens the world around her.  I’m so proud to be her Momma and I’m honored that God chose me to take care of this angel.

She has hopes and dreams….and I have no doubts that she’ll accomplish all of the, one way or the other.  She gives it her all in everything that she does.  She has a faith that runs deep and never doubts what God has planned for her.

As I reflect on the past 18 years, all I have is love and joy.  I know she’s not perfect, she is mine after all.  She’s truly a great kid woman and has a bright future.  I remember being told I couldn’t have kids and I remember the day I found out that I was pregnant.  Life would never be the same!!  She has always done things her way and she has amazing strength….and some that she doesn’t even know she has.  She was my partner all the times that hubby was gone due to military life.  Her dad is her buddy and they enjoy getting in trouble together.  Through it all, she knows that we’re her parents and love her unconditionally.

18th Birthday

Happy Birthday sweet girl young lady!!  Daddy and I wish you all the best today….and every day of your life to come.  We can’t wait to see what lies ahead!!  You may be grown up, but you’ll always be our little girl!!  😀

Creation Story Wheel

I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’ve been uploading several resources to my store. I’ve also just been participating in life!! It’s been awhile since I’ve offered any freebies, but now’s my chance.

We’re back to religious education as of last week. It was hectic, so I really didn’t have anything to share. This week however, we’re learning about creation. This is the project that I’m working on with my little ones….

TheDaysOfCreation StoryWheel byElaine@TheSchoolhouse 1SAMPLE

This story wheel is actually 2 wheels under one cover “wheel”. The first is to select the day of creation and the second is to identify what was created on that day. This project is perfect for learning or reviewing the days of creation.

I’be listed this for free at The Schoolhouse on TPT. If you’re interested in using this project for your class, just click to be taken to the….

Pink Slip

Today, hubby was handed his pink slip.  We pretty much knew it was coming.  They’ve let so many people go and they’ve been holding regular meetings with those that are left.  It’s all due to the massive budget cuts.  I can’t believe this administration can keep spending money like there’s an endless supply, but can’t pay government employees and contractors.  It’s just ridiculous.

If the Obama administration got rid of some of his employees and quit taking million dollar vacations, the rest of the government employees and contractors would be working.  As is, DoD employees are going to be furloughed and that forces them to get much less pay.  Contractors are having to let employees go because even though the government signed contracts, there is no money.  Yet, Obama has the largest staff of ANY president and none of them make less than $100,000 a year.  That would pay 2-3 people at my husbands pay.

Anyway, as hubby was handed his pink slip, he was told to head over to Human Resources.  He did that and was told that he got another job that he’d applied for, so he won’t be without a job.  However, he will be taking a $5 per hour cut in pay.  That’s absolutely huge for us, but at least he’ll be working.  Thanks to all the meetings, he submitted his resume early and was able to get this chance to move into another job.

We’re very thankful that God watches over this family.  It is because he is so good that we’re going to be alright during this time when so many are suffering.  We’re thankful for what we have and will make it work for us and we’re praying for those that were let go the same time as hubby or are facing furloughs!!

Job Status

On a good note, hubby was informed that his job won’t be cut this time. However, 4 of the guys that he works with did lose their jobs due to budget cuts. His shop has gone from 300 employees to 85 in just months!! Hubby was informed that if there’s more cuts, he’ll be among them.

For now, our prayers have been answered.  I’m so thankful for that.  No matter how much you try not to worry, you can’t help it.  You wonder how you’re going to make the house payment and put food on the table.  Nevermind all the rest of the bills!!  I just appreciate all those that prayed for hubby’s job.  God is good!!  Now, we continue to pray for this country and the people running it that don’t give a crap about the rest of us.

Now onto my rant (of sorts)….

I wonder how much longer Obama and his administration are going to go on lying to the American people and them believing it!?! Look at all those people out of jobs, yet everyone on his staff makes in access of $100,000 a year. That pay for a useless position would keep several people on post in a job. He tells us that he supports the military and is making sure that they have jobs. Really….how so?? Practically every job on this post that has been cut because he can’t balance a budget is military or a family members. On this post alone, we’re talking a couple thousand jobs gone. That’s just here!!

Look at the unemployment numbers. Any little bit that it goes “down” is because people are running out of unemployment. They’re no longer part of the statistics!!

Cut the stupid spending. Bring jobs back to America. Quit taking vacations that taxpayers are paying for and can’t afford to take themselves. Pay for your own kids schooling. You don’t need secret service protection “for life”. Limit salary raises for Congress and let Americans vote on their pay raises….and set term limits. Get the illegals out and quit giving them more rights than we have and tons of freebies that taxpaying Americans don’t get.  Limit welfare and put an end to having kids for more money.

Quit worrying about stopping flyovers at sporting events that promote patriotism.  Cutting that isn’t what’s going to help.  Get off the campaign trail and actually do something that’s going to help this country and bring some relief to it’s people.  Stop worrying about our guns and give more help to those that are disturbed and quit letting convicted criminals live high on the hog while behind bars.  Drill off the coast of CA or let them pay even higher prices for gas and find relief for the rest of us.

And those are the thoughts of just one fed-up American woman that loves God, her family, and this country!!

Can a Child be Over-Churched?

One of my favorite sites for Christian materials for home and religious education is Ministry-to-Children.  The author is Tony Krummer.  It contains so many articles, printables, and just anything that you might need.  Last year, he even recognized my blog as one of the “Top 100 Children’s Ministry Blogs” and I was so honored!!

Recently, he’s been discussing children being over-churched.  This is a really touchy topic, but I think that he’s handled it well.  I’m pretty much in full agreement with everything that he’s said.  I know some of these over-churched kids and it’s as sad to see them as the ones who never go to church.  Some of these kids eat, drink, and sleep church.  That’s definitely over-churched.  I know families that think that because they basically live at the church, that it makes them “good Christians”.  Anything in access doesn’t make “good”!!

I find it very hard to talk to these families too.  I almost feel like they’re brainwashed because every part of every conversation has to revolve around God and church.  I say brainwashed because people often don’t understand my religion and don’t want to and often tell me that my faith is “wrong”.  I don’t know how it can be wrong just because one doesn’t understand it and I’m not the same thing that they are.  What I’m saying is, these kids are very hard to reach.  Probably because they think they know more than me or know it all.

In all honesty, I don’t think that’s what God expects from us.  Personally, I think being in church and religion classes that often causes you to lose something.  The real connection and purpose of it all.  There’s so many important aspects that happen away from the church and religious classroom that are as much a part of life as church is.  To fully experience life, they must have a balance of both!!

I highly recommend that you check out everything that Tony has had to say on the subject of over-churched kids.  It’s so well put together and I enjoy the way he puts his thoughts out there on this topic.  You can find out what he’s said all in one post with links to his stories and comments here.

What are you thoughts on over-churched kids??
