Today is my little girls 18th birthday!! I can’t believe how fast time has gone. She’s an amazing
girl woman who brings joy to everyone that she touches. She has a smile that brightens the world around her. I’m so proud to be her Momma and I’m honored that God chose me to take care of this angel.
She has hopes and dreams….and I have no doubts that she’ll accomplish all of the, one way or the other. She gives it her all in everything that she does. She has a faith that runs deep and never doubts what God has planned for her.
As I reflect on the past 18 years, all I have is love and joy. I know she’s not perfect, she is mine after all. She’s truly a great
kid woman and has a bright future. I remember being told I couldn’t have kids and I remember the day I found out that I was pregnant. Life would never be the same!! She has always done things her way and she has amazing strength….and some that she doesn’t even know she has. She was my partner all the times that hubby was gone due to military life. Her dad is her buddy and they enjoy getting in trouble together. Through it all, she knows that we’re her parents and love her unconditionally.
Happy Birthday sweet
girl young lady!! Daddy and I wish you all the best today….and every day of your life to come. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead!! You may be grown up, but you’ll always be our little girl!! 😀
The optional theme that I picked for today was actually a hard one for me. This week’s optional themes is HANDS.
I had the choice of several hands to photograph. I ended up picking the hands that have held my heart for over 25 years. They’re the hands of a strong man. These hands served this country for 20 years. They held our baby and still comfort her. They are the hands that pat and love the dogs as soon as they get home. These hands often have extra work to do around the house. They’re steady hands as they build a model. These are the hands of a kind and loving man. They’re hands that have done much in life and have so much more life to go through.
These are the hands of my wonderful husband….

I hope that you link up!! I’d really love to come visit and see what you’re sharing this week!!
So kiddo and I went out yesterday and did a little shopping and took care of some errands. When we got home, there was a message on the answering machine from my Dad. I couldn’t figure out why since I’d just talked to him early in the morning. So, I call them right away to see what’s up.
Low and behold, they inform me that they’ve decided to come see us THIS weekend!! My mom has declared this a little mini-vacation. She’s determined that she’s not going anyplace or do anything the whole time that she’s here. YAY!! I’m so happy and excited. I love my parents so much and I love it when they do little things like this. It’s a different schedule than usual though because Mom has to be back to work on Monday instead of them leaving as usual on Monday. But, they’re also arriving a day earlier than usual!
I’m so looking forward to some special family time. To top it all off, we’re supposed to have a cool down and possibly get a little much needed rain. It should make for a wonderful weekend and for some enjoyable time together. Now, it’s time to plan my menu!!
What do you have going on?? Any surprises in your life??
So I know, you’re wondering just where I’ve been. Well, I’ve not been sitting idle, that’s for sure!!
Kiddo has taken a “break” from her volunteering at the animal shelter. The schedule of working with Doc has changed and it just doesn’t work with us homeschooling through summer. We’re enjoying having a little more time on our hands though. Then again, it’s not in our hands….it’s spent in the books!!
Homeschool is going well. So far summer has mostly been spent on Geometry. We also have some science labs planned, but we’ll handle those after Miss K’s last summer visit to see my parents. She’s also working on Latin, but I’m just not much help. I know teaching her, I should be, but I never liked foreign language. All’s not lost though because my Dad happens to be great at Latin, so she gets a lot of work in then!!
My weight has been stable for going on 2 years now. I’m still walking when I can. It should be more often, but it is what it is. At least I’m getting some activity in!! I’m very happy with where I’m at and I know those final 10 pounds will come when it’s time. The one thing that I haven’t done much of is photography and I’m really looking forward to getting behind the camera again. I miss it and just haven’t taken as many opportunities as I should to get photos.
I’m happy to say that my shops are doing alright. I’m trying to keep them stocked with new printables. Don’t forget if you’re in need of educational or Christian printables, be sure to check out my stores (the buttons are in the left-hand column)!!
So what else can I tell you!?!? Other than that, life is just busy. We’re always doing something and trying not to let things slip through the schedule. Unfortunately, my blog does seem to suffer a bit. It always picks up once school starts, and that’s just not far off any more. RE is just around the corner. Can you believe it’s July already?? I’m thrilled though because the heat is on!!
How’s your summer been?? What have you been up to??
As many of you know, I’ve been considering opening a store to sell my printables in. This isn’t an easy decision for me. I had to put a lot of thought and prayer into it. I wanted to do what’s right for my friends, followers, and readers. I also have to do what’s best for my family.
My ultimate decision is to open a store to sell my printable materials in. I’ve opened an Etsy shop, and also a shop on Teachers Notebook.
I want to assure you that I’ll continue to post freebies on my blog and Facebook. I’m not trying to get rich, but merely help add some income to my family. Giving and sharing my printables is just what comes naturally to me. It’s what I truly love to do and will continue to do.
I hope that all of you will keep following me on this blog and on Facebook. It’s also my hope that you’ll check out my stops. I’ve tried to keep my prices down, so hopefully you’ll find something that you can use. I’d also appreciate it if you’d spread the word to anyone that you know that might be looking for educational or Christian printables for home or school.
Please check out my stores and be sure to follow them so you know when I upload new products, have sales, and so on!! You’ll also be able to access the shops at any time by clicking the buttons in my right hand column.
“The Schoolhouse” on Etsy
“The Schoolhouse” at Teachers Notebook
Remember, I fully plan on keeping this blog going. I’ll be posting freebies here as often as I can. I’m not on a schedule as it is, but they’ll be posted as often as possible. One of the only changes will be that some of the freebies I post will be available for a limited amount of time, but very few of them. Also, some of my older ones will be expired so that I can move them into my shops. But please know this will only be a few of them and all the rest will continue as usual!!
It’s been 23 months since Miss K first had her braces put on. But, let’s start from the beginning….
We went to one orthodontist and he just treated us like crap. His patients while we were there seemed to be very snobby and his staff most certainly was. We knew that fixing kiddos teeth was going to be a lot of work. We were prepared. However, this ortho wouldn’t even talk to us. I asked him what he was going to do and what he expected and he said he didn’t know. They did all the prep work and told us to come back. We went to our next appointment and the ortho still wouldn’t talk to us. When we went to leave, we commented that we were active duty, but only for about another year. The receptionist jumped up and said “you’re retiring?” and we said “yes”. She started freaking and said, “well that changes things and we’re going to have to charge you MORE”. We couldn’t believe it. She had us pay something and said that when we came back, she’d have the new amount. Next appointment, the ortho didn’t want to talk to me to discuss the treatment for kiddos teeth. In fact, he’d never seen her….only his dental hygienists had to this point. When we left, we weren’t happy and I told the receptionist that we’d let her know.
A while later, we went to our dentist for our regular 6 month cleaning. We told him what happened, so he contacted the orthodontist. The jerk told him that we refuse treatment!! Are you kidding me!?!? I told the dentist about the money and about how the ortho had never seen Miss K, much less explained treatment to us. He told us to forget this ortho and go to another one here in town and said that he was just as good.
Being treated the way she had been, kiddo had no desire to go back to get her teeth fixed. We continued to have our regular 6 month cleanings and our dentist just kept reminding us that her teeth really needed to be fixed. We knew this, but it never was an issue for her. Despite how messed up they were, she just kept on smiling.
Moving ahead about 2 years after our first orthodontist experience, Miss K mentioned that she thinks she’s ready to get work done on her teeth. Our dentist again tells us about another one here in town. We schedule an appointment and go…..to be greeted by the nicest staff there was!! They did x-rays and we talked to the ortho immediatey. He said that he didn’t think that he didn’t think he could do what we needed. Luckily, we had an appointment with our dentist very shortly after and we told him. He said that he’d talk to the ortho because he knew that he could do it. He was young and have new methods to help her teeth. Not long after that, the ortho office called us and said that he has agreed to see us, so we scheduled the first appointment. We were greeted immediately and they even remembered our names (remember, we weren’t patients yet)!! The orthodontist told us what he planned to do, as long as we understood that her teeth wouldn’t be “perfect”. We agreed, so financial came in and told us the cost, how much insurance will pay and how much we’re left with. She explained that the ortho does take monthly payments and that we could pay it off in a year, which was half the treatment time.
We never had an issue with payments, staff, or anything else!! One time, they accidentally took a double payment out and called to let us know and asked if we wanted a check or some other method to get the money back. I had a check in 3 days!! The entire staff was always nice and friendly, answered any questions that I had, and kept us updated. Now here we are 23 months later and the braces have come off. Miss K’s teeth are beautiful!! Forget not being “perfect” because they look great and they’re perfect to us. He told her that she was a great patient, having never broken a wire or bracket…..and didn’t have “stained” teeth when the braces came off. That means that she kept them nice and clean!!
So why are we so happy?? It might be shocking when you see what it was as compared to what they are now. Take a look at the before and after…..
Miss K’s teeth were messed up….period. She’s got the ideal smile now and her smile is just as beautiful as she is. We got her retainer today and go back in 6 weeks to check it and if there’s any tooth movement. We’re expecting nothing unusual because she’ll take care of them. We just can’t thank the orthodontist enough. He has forever changed Miss K and we’re all so happy and thrilled with the results.
Today marks my Blogoversary. I can’t believe that it’s been 5 years already. WOW!! Where did time go!?!?
As I do pretty much each year, I’m going to give you a few quick stats about Commotion. I always find them interesting and hope that you do as well. So here we go….

On a good note, hubby was informed that his job won’t be cut this time. However, 4 of the guys that he works with did lose their jobs due to budget cuts. His shop has gone from 300 employees to 85 in just months!! Hubby was informed that if there’s more cuts, he’ll be among them.
For now, our prayers have been answered. I’m so thankful for that. No matter how much you try not to worry, you can’t help it. You wonder how you’re going to make the house payment and put food on the table. Nevermind all the rest of the bills!! I just appreciate all those that prayed for hubby’s job. God is good!! Now, we continue to pray for this country and the people running it that don’t give a crap about the rest of us.
Now onto my rant (of sorts)….
I wonder how much longer Obama and his administration are going to go on lying to the American people and them believing it!?! Look at all those people out of jobs, yet everyone on his staff makes in access of $100,000 a year. That pay for a useless position would keep several people on post in a job. He tells us that he supports the military and is making sure that they have jobs. Really….how so?? Practically every job on this post that has been cut because he can’t balance a budget is military or a family members. On this post alone, we’re talking a couple thousand jobs gone. That’s just here!!
Look at the unemployment numbers. Any little bit that it goes “down” is because people are running out of unemployment. They’re no longer part of the statistics!!
Cut the stupid spending. Bring jobs back to America. Quit taking vacations that taxpayers are paying for and can’t afford to take themselves. Pay for your own kids schooling. You don’t need secret service protection “for life”. Limit salary raises for Congress and let Americans vote on their pay raises….and set term limits. Get the illegals out and quit giving them more rights than we have and tons of freebies that taxpaying Americans don’t get. Limit welfare and put an end to having kids for more money.
Quit worrying about stopping flyovers at sporting events that promote patriotism. Cutting that isn’t what’s going to help. Get off the campaign trail and actually do something that’s going to help this country and bring some relief to it’s people. Stop worrying about our guns and give more help to those that are disturbed and quit letting convicted criminals live high on the hog while behind bars. Drill off the coast of CA or let them pay even higher prices for gas and find relief for the rest of us.
And those are the thoughts of just one fed-up American woman that loves God, her family, and this country!!

We have a new member in our family. Well, our holiday family, that is. Yesterday, we officially adopted Ralph Elf. He’s direct relation to all those other helpers to Santa, Elf on a Shelf.
Kiddo and I went shopping yesterday and for a couple years now, we’ve been saying we should get one. She told me she didn’t get how they could possibly work. (I just love how she plays along!!) Finally yesterday, she decided it was time. Leaving the store, I told her that she gets to name it. I jokingly said he looks like a “Ralph” and Ralph Elf was “born” and became ours!!
We went home and promptly filled out all his information and his new family name. We printed out our adoption certificate so we could keep it close by him. Miss K read the story to the dogs and they listened with great intent. I about know what they were thinking…..FINALLY, we won’t be the only spoiled naughty ones in the house!! We set Ralph on the tv cabinet with some other decorations and said that we hoped he’d be a good boy and just return there each night.
No such luck!! This is where we found Ralph Elf this morning….
Now this is a definite no-no!! That decoration is very old and delicate. But sure enough, there he is enjoying a ride on the reindeer. SHEESH The kid in the picture is pretty cute too, isn’t she!?!? It was a few years ago, but she’s still alright for a teen!! HAHA
I’ll keep you posted on our newest holiday family member. Right now, I’m just hoping that he doesn’t find too much trouble or he might get a punishment!! By the way, if you head over to the Elf on the Shelf site, they have some really fun games that we wasted a fair amount of time playing yesterday afternoon. HAHA

I can’t believe that 6 weeks have already passed. Time sure is flying!! It’s been such a mild winter that I can even imagine spring just around the corner. Boy will I be happy too!! Since I started losing weight, I’m cold all the time. I mean, a girl really counts on that blubber to keep her warm all winter long!! HAHA
I’d love to tell you how much weight I’ve lost since the surgery, but I’ve honestly lost track. I believe it to be between 25 to 30 pounds. This week I stayed exactly the same….not up nor down. The week prior, I lost 4 lbs rather quickly. It’s alright with me that I slowed down again. I really want my body to keep up with the weight loss. I need for my exercising to keep me toned and not muscled. I definitely don’t need the added weight of muscle!! I want to look good….healthy….not buff.
Despite the great weather, I haven’t been able to get out and get any new photos. I am going to be working in my flower beds this weekend though. No, I’m not planting yet. They just need all the winter debris removed and the dirt roughed up so they’re ready for spring planting.
My parents came to visit last weekend and we had a great time. The only problem is that it went by way too fast!! Unfortunately, I have an aunt and uncle that are both very sick right now. It’s my mom’s oldest sister and her husband. He also happens to be my dad’s best friend since they were kids. What are the chances on marrying sisters, huh!?!? I’m worried about them and am just praying for their health and peace. I also found out tonight that my mom’s youngest sister’s husband is in the hospital too. Such is life in an aging family. I remember them all when they were MY age!!
Well, I think that gets you all caught up again. I know, I still haven’t gotten into a routine to blog more often. Still working on that one, but I’m thrilled to not be stuck at the computer all day!! I hope that you all are well, my faithful readers. Leave me a comment and let me know what you all are up to.

Labor Day is always considered the last holiday weekend of summer. If this weekend’s temperatures are any sign of it, then it’s true. Saturday was in the 100’s, but then we woke Sunday morning to a cold front…a real one!! The high temp on Sunday was 40 degrees cooler than Saturday. It was amazing and it was great!! The 80’s feel so good and I wouldn’t care if it was like this year round. I know without a doubt though that the heat will be back because this is only the beginning of September. Relief is great though!!
With the cool-down and lighter winds, the fire was contained on the Wildlife Refuge. Most of the fire departments went home and there was just some smoldering left that they had under control. Then the cool North winds blew Sunday and reignited the smoldering embers. The Wildlife Refuge was once again ablaze. They had to call in all the departments that were getting their first rest in days. For the time that it was contained, the damage was at 20,000 acres and 10 homes burned. Those figures will be changing.
The transformation of Miss K’s room is complete. She officially has the room of a teenager!! I must say, I really like it. Things are arranged really nice and she’s got plenty of room. The chair that we found at Kohl’s for a steal fits in there perfectly and it suits her. That means that I got my rocking chair back and is now placed back in my room. This time through, we’ll be able to use it!! While kiddo was trimming down the things that she kept, we got rid of some things in our room as well. I love it when I can see progress!! I do believe that Miss K is thrilled with her room and that she’ll be happy with it for the time she has left at home. The way it is now, it’ll continue to grow with her and she can move things to change the configuration of it. It’s perfect for a growing girl!!
Sunday, we were all looking forward to a night race at Atlanta after church in the morning, but it was rained out. Go figure that they don’t need rain and the East Coast has flooding from the hurricane. Then they get more rain from Lee that we could have desperately used, but instead it goes East. Anyway, after the rain delay, they postponed the race until Tuesday. Should be interesting to get that in BEFORE school!!
Today, we were surprised by our good friends Tim and Dee. We knew that they were supposed to come down soon to move her mom into their home. We however, didn’t know that they were already here!! She asked me on Messenger what we’d be doing and I told her nothing unless we went to the Refuge to see the fire damage. We skipped that since it was on fire again. Good thing because in the afternoon, the doorbell rang and there they were!! It was awesome to see them and we’ll be taking them to dinner tomorrow night.
It was a great weekend and we enjoyed the extra time off with Lean Green. Our family is truly blessed and it’s times like this that we appreciate the most.
I want to wish my mom, the best mother there is, a very Happy and Blessed Mother’s Day. You led by example and I hope that I’m at least a portion of the mom that you were and still are. You’ve always been there for me and I couldn’t imagine anything different between us….even when you push my buttons!!
To my family, friends, and readers that are all mom’s, grandma’s, godmother’s, and more…..
I wish you all the very best today. I hope that you get to relax and just enjoy the day with your family as it should be. Have a happy and blessed day!!
I know for me, my greatest gift was becoming a mom. Every time I hear “momma”, part of me lights up inside….and probably outside too. There just is nothing better in the world!! I’ve also been blessed to be a godmother 3 times over to a set of sisters. They’re great girls and so often show their love for me. All of it combined just makes me the most blessed woman there is!!
I just wanted to remind you that I’ve been nominated as one of the “Top 25 Homeschooling Blogs” at Circle of Moms. I’d appreciate your vote by clicking the button above. On my voting page, just click the orange thumbs-up button to vote. You can vote ONCE A DAY until 11 May 2011. Thank you in advance!!
