Author Study: Mem Fox

In my Y!Group, we like to do author and book studies.  So much learning is focused around themes and stories.

Most recently we did Mem Fox.  She’s definitely a favorite children’s book author.  Her books are so fun to read and really draw the kids in.  Her illustrators always draw the perfect pictures for the story.  Everything is paired very well.  I used to love to read her books to Miss K.  Our favorite was Harriet, You’ll Drive Me Wild.  We read it over and over!!

As I always try to do, I created a couple printables to go with our Mem Fox author study.  I have only been able to get a couple things created for it.  I’m not going to say that I’ll make more, because I’m just not sure!!  I wanted to with Richard Scarry and it just didn’t happen.  Time seems to be premium!!  However, I did get a magnification game and an interactive preposition book done for Mem’s works.  I really like the book and hope that you do as well.

Here’s a thumbnail view of some of the printables available….

If you’re interested in these Mem Fox printables, just…..

**PLEASE NOTE: Books and characters © Mem Fox and the publishers – I in no way lay claim to ownership of the characters, images, books, or anything else pertaining to Mem Fox.**

Johnny Appleseed

As many of you may know, Saturday is John Chapman’s birthday.  You may better know him as Johnny Appleseed.  Some think that’s he’s merely fiction, but he was indeed a real man.  Today, I have printables to share that are all about Johnny Appleseed!!

Up first is a strip puzzle that teaches and re-enforces number order from 1-10.  Next up is a set of jigsaw puzzles that are 4, 8, and 12 pieces and feature great art of Johnny.  You’ll also find a tic-tac-toe game that has a variety of game pieces to go with it.  Then there’s a memory game to test the kids thinking and memory skills.  You’ll need to print out 2 pages of each page for this one!!  I don’t want to forget the Johnny Appleseed shadow match game.  This one is great for visual recognition.

More along the educational line than the skill areas, there’s “Johnny Appleseed Beginning Letter Match”.  This one, the kids will match the apple tree object to the letter that it begins with.  Johnny of course is carrying these “seedy” letters!!  You can find these 2-part cards here.

Finally, I made did some copywork for Johnny Appleseed.  I’m pretty proud of the way that it turned out.  The first book is all cursive.  The second book is for a variety of ages/grades.  It contains cursive, ZB, and DN.  The cursive copywork book is just simply, “Johnny Appleseed Copywork“.  The second copywork book is based on the poem In Praise of Johnny Appleseed by Vachel Lindsay and is In Praise of Johnny Appleseed Copywork“.

I hope that you find something that you can use to celebrate John Chapman’s birthday and it will inspire you to find out more about the man behind the name of Johnny Appleseed!!

If you use my printables, please leave a comment and let me know if you liked it or if the kids enjoyed the activity.  I can only create from the input that I get from those that use it most often!!  Also, If you enjoy my blog, posts, or printables that I share, please click the button below to vote for me.  Thanks!!

Letter of the Week: Ff

This week, my Letter of the Week is “Ff”.   I had a pretty easy time finding “f” words for kids.  It gave me several options for what I created.

Activities for the Letter of the Week include writing practice and letter tile mats. There’s also Play-Doh mats, which have a variety of uses.  Everything is available in DN or ZB font.  Be sure to check out all the “letter f” printables that I’ve created.  Also, please check back because you never know if I might add an activity and update this post about it!!

If you use my printables, please leave a comment and let me know if you liked it or if the kids enjoyed the activity.  I can only create from the input that I get from those that use it most often!!  Also, If you enjoy my blog, posts, or printables that I share, please click the button below to vote for me.  Thanks!!

More Calendar Sets and Geography Books

I managed to get 2 more calendar sets done today.  I don’t know why, but I really enjoy making these.  I’ve got them uploaded and you can find them on my 4Shared account.  The first one is Old McDonald’s Farm and is full of fun farm animals.  There’s also Mr. and Mrs. McDonald along with farm buildings, tractors and a few extras!!  Next is a set of adorable Spring birds.  The graphics are by Trina Clark at Digi Scrap Kits and the calendar set was a request by one of the members of my group.

I also wanted to share some geography books that were the project of 3 groups that I’m in.  A nice lady by the name of Jan was working on a set of books for each state.  She wanted the complete set, but they take awhile to make and require quite a bit of work.  Once she mentioned this, many people started volunteering to help make the books, including me.  I also offered to store the complete set in my 4Shared since I have plenty of room.  Before we knew it, we didn’t just have books for each state, but it expanded.  All the books are in the format of  “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” and can be used for kids of all ages.  They’re packed with information!!  You can find all the books for States and Possessions/Territories of U.S., with the exception of Nebraska and Alabama.  They still have to be made.  The project spread to all of North America, so you can also find books for Mexico and Territories/Providences of Canada.  The book for Quebec is still being worked on, so that will be available a little bit later in time.

PLEASE NOTE: These books can NOT be shared in any manner.  They are for personal or classroom use ONLY!!  They can’t be uploaded to your 4Shared account, Giga, or any other online method, including sharing in groups and so on.
