Creation Story Wheel

I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’ve been uploading several resources to my store. I’ve also just been participating in life!! It’s been awhile since I’ve offered any freebies, but now’s my chance.

We’re back to religious education as of last week. It was hectic, so I really didn’t have anything to share. This week however, we’re learning about creation. This is the project that I’m working on with my little ones….

TheDaysOfCreation StoryWheel byElaine@TheSchoolhouse 1SAMPLE

This story wheel is actually 2 wheels under one cover “wheel”. The first is to select the day of creation and the second is to identify what was created on that day. This project is perfect for learning or reviewing the days of creation.

I’be listed this for free at The Schoolhouse on TPT. If you’re interested in using this project for your class, just click to be taken to the….

Ash Wednesday Fun and Learning

Last night’s lesson was all about Ash Wednesday and how it’s the first day of Lent.  Advent and Lent are always interesting concepts to teach the kids when it’s all about “waiting” and “preparing”.  At their age, they’re just ready for Santa and the Easter Bunny.  They soak up the information like sponges!!

AshWednesday-Ashes byElaineG 1SAMPLE

After our discussion about Lent, we focused on Ash Wednesday and did this activity page.  Since we attend mass as part of class on Ash Wednesday, it’s important the kids know all about the ashes so they know what to expect.  After that, we practiced for mass….several times!!  Our final activity was a little craft that I made for the kids.  They colored the pictures to look like themselves and then we took black paint and put a cross on the foreheads with their thumb.

The Good Shepherd

Last week, we worked on The Good Shepherd in my religion class.  I enjoy teaching this one to the kids to help them understand how loved we are.  We are protected by his love and his son, Jesus, died for us.

GoodShepherdSheepMatch worksheet&coloringpage byElaineG SAMPLE

I made 2 things for my class to use.  The first is a worksheet.  It’s to match Jesus and his sheep to a sheep on the page.  A line is drawn to match the 2 and then colored to match each other.  The next item is a coloring page.  It’s Jesus among the sheep with the verse from John 10:11 (NAS).

What’s Inside the Church?

This week, my lesson was on church.  I not only cover behavior, but things that we see in church.  I like the kids to be familiar with their environment and have some understanding of what they see and why it’s in church.  I only did one of these activities with my kids because I had a couple other good materials to use.

The first activity is a cut and paste.  This is the one that I did with my class.  There is a sheet with lots of items found in church and the same number that aren’t found in church.  The kids find 6 items that are in church and glue them to the church windows.  With all the options, my kids had several different versions because they all remember different things in church.  I think it made it really fun!!

The next activity is a worksheet for matching items to the church.  There’s several items all around the church and the kids draw a line from the items found in a church to the church and nothing is done with the other items….or you could have them cross them out.

Here’s a thumbnail view of both activities…..

Adam and Eve

Today’s lesson in religion class is Adam and Eve.  I pretty much cover Creation fully, then I do Adam and Eve.  That’s where I’m at today.

I was totally blank for ideas, then all of a sudden I found an image on the internet and it spurred an idea in me.  The “craft” that we’ll be doing is a follow the direction.  Since my kids can’t read yet, I’ll give them the directions one at a time and we’ll move on after everyone has each one done.

First, you’ll need the Garden of Eden coloring page scene.  Next, you’ll need my page that has the directions, Adam, Eve, and an apple on it.  You can get that if you click here.  That’s it….the rest is in the directions!!

Here’s a thumbnail view of my page….

We’ll also be doing this and using an activity from this.  In addition, we’ll read the kids version of the story of Adam and Eve and I have a coloring/activity page printed out from the internet, but can’t remember the source as I’ve had it for a couple years now.

I’d love to hear what you think about this project and if you did it with your kiddos.  Please leave a comment below or use the “contact me” button in the right column.  I truly create by the input that I receive, so let me hear from you!!

Ready for Class

I can’t believe that it’s time to go back to religious education classes already.  Yep, today is the day!!  Summer went so fast, but now it’s time to focus on the little ones.

I have a few things that I’m going to share that I’ll be using in my class this year.  First off is my name plates and incentive cards.  My daughter wanted to do a Moses themes, so that’s just what we did!!  I used the Bible verse from John 14:15 and I think it’s just perfect for them.  The name plates get attached to their supply boxes which are on their desks waiting for them when they arrive to class.  The incentive cards are on the front of their folders and I mark a space for each time they return their folder to class.  After a certain number of times, they get to go to the Treasure Chest!!

The last thing is my progress report.  I haven’t used one in several years.  Believe it or not, I had complaints.  Go figure!!  Anyway, I’m going back to using one again this year.  It’s very basic and is “graded” as O – Outstanding, S – Satisfactory, and N – Needs Improvement.  There’s an area for comments and the parent’s signature.  I don’t have attendance or tardy areas on it, but it’s something that I might do in the future.  There might be other changes to this form depending on how it works for me and the parental response.  Oh, and I should note that these are editable.  You can print as is and write them out, or you can fill-in the form fields and then print them out already completed.

Here’s a thumbnail sample of what they look like….
