London 2012: Days 6 and 7

It’s been an interesting couple of days at the Olympics.  At this point, the USA has taken the lead in the medal count.

Today we watched Dalhausser/Rogers lose their beach volleyball match.  That puts them out of getting a medal for these Olympics.  It’s really a shame, but it happens.

Our swimmers were HOT!!  Michael Phelps has a record number with one more to race to go.  That one will be a relay.  Our ladies are doing fantastic too.  I’m really enjoying the swimming this year.  I enjoyed what Phelps had to say about the young ones coming up.  Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was on hand to watch the events too!!

Gabby Douglas got the gold medal and 2 Soviet’s got the silver and bronze.  It was a tie with Ally of the US for the bronze, but in a tie breaker, the Soviet came out on top.

Women’s volleyball is on a roll too.  Women’s water polo wins again too.  Track and Field had many of their opening events as well.  The US earned the silver medal in shot-put.  That’s one that I did as a young girl!!

Here’s the latest medal count…..

London 2012: Days 3, 4, and 5

It’s been a busy time around the house and it’s been a great couple of days in Olympic action.  Where do I begin!?!?

It was amazing watching the women’s gymnastics!!  You just couldn’t help being totally wrapped up in the action.  You could feel that spirit and pride flow through you.  It was amazing and at the same time, it was hard to see the Russian’s in so much pain of missing out on medal.  Then again, it happened to our men’s team as well.

We got to see Michael Phelps get the record number of Olympic medals too.  So far, he’s pretty much shown up those on our own team who took aim at him.  Our women swimmers are doing great too.  Scored a couple more medals there!!

Beach volleyball is one of our favorites.  We saw May-Trainer and Walsh win their match.  The next day, Dalhausser and Rogers won theirs too, but it was a really close one.  The water polo match is so exciting.  Those guys are on a roll.  They’re not bad to look at either!!  HAHA

Men’s beach volleyball played today and they looked way better than the match we saw the other day.  They were on it!!  Women’s volleyball was amazing today!!  We beat China in 3 strait games, but the last one was a rough one.  There was 5 match points!!  We looked really rough in gymnastics, but one of our guys still took home the bronze.  One of the best views today was women’s swimming!!  I can’t tell you how exciting it was, as you just had to see it yourself.  Fantastic!!

London 2012: Day 2

Today was another great day of Olympics!!  Other than a break to watch the Brickyard 400, we watched Olympics all day long.  I have to say though, it was a great race!!  Jimmy Johnson won his 4th race at Indianapolis.  Best of all, Dale Jr took the points lead!!  WooHoo  It’s the first time since 2004 that he’s been in this position.

It was actually a day of disappointment in London too.  Ryan Lochte lost the lead in the 4x 100m.  Phelps had us in good position and Lochte had the final leg, but finished in 2nd.  We ended up with a silver medal out of it, but we really shouldn’t have lost that gold.  I say Lochte and Phelps are now tied up for the performances!!

In other sad news, Jordyn Wieber won’t be doing the all-around for Team USA.  She was scored incredibly unfair.  Trust me, that’s not just my opinion.  With the new format, only the top 2 scoring members of each country move on to the all-around.  For us, it’ll be Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.  Of course, Jordyn still gets to perform her individual routine, but it’s a shame that the reigning World Champion won’t go to the all-around.

Rhodes took the gold medal in clay shooting.  She’s totally awesome!!  Also, Dana Vollmer not only got the gold, but set the new world record for the 100m butterfly.  She was flawless in the pool!!  In the ladies synchronized 3m springboard diving, we got a silver and they were fascinating to watch.

The other big event that we watched today was men’s water polo.  We beat Montenegro.  It wasn’t a medal round, but it was a great game and sends us on!!

Today’s medal count is…..

London 2012: Day 1

For those that follow my blog or are regular readers, you know that I absolutely love the Olympics.  I’ve been looking forward to this time for months.  I’m all about TEAM USA!!  Being such a fan, I post regular medal counts and often give my opinions of the day’s events.  It doesn’t mean I’ll post them every day or that I won’t have regular posts during this time.  However, I do enjoy them and hope that you like my coverage of the Olympics.

I think the biggest story is probably Michael Phelps not getting a medal today in the 400 IM.  However, we did get a gold medal with Ryan Lochte in the same event.  It was quite exciting!!  No matter, I still think Phelps is going to get at least a couple medals this year.  Our women’s beach volleyball squeaked one through today and move on, as well as the woman’s volleyball taking a win.

Our men’s archery got a bronze today.  I just love watching that.  I did archery often when I was little and loved it even then.  The bows they use for competition is so different than what I used in school though.  The other 3 medals that we got today all came in swimming events.  I watched the ladies 4x and was yelling for them to pull ahead.

Here’s today’s medal count…..

We usually pick an additional country to root for. Kiddo likes Switzerland and Belgium. I’m a fan of Great Britain and Australia.  Who are you rooting for??  What’s your favorite event??

Simply an Olympic Update

I don’t have anything for you tonight.  I’m really really tired.  Hubby has been keeping me up, on top of me already up late.  He’s been hogging the bed, snoring, talking in his sleep and just restless.  I feel for him because his duties just are lightening up any.  They told him they’d move him to lighter duty so we could prepare for retirement and it’s not happening.  So, now he’s got a sore throat, a cough and he’s just plain tired.

Homeschool is going great though.  Today was day 3 and we were done by 1 p.m. again.  That was even doing an extra lesson of math.  I think there may be areas that slow us down a little, but I expect us to keep doing 2 lessons a day now.  Starting next week, we’re going to double up on language arts as well.  It’s sure not going to hurt anything and K definitely has a grasp on what she’s doing and learning.

So, on to the Olympics.  Events in Beijing are starting to come to a close.  In fact, the Closing Ceremony is Friday.  Our women’s volleyball took gold in the rain!!  It was an awesome match.  I was on the edge of my seat and yelling.  China with their fake injury just couldn’t stop our women!!  Our sweet 15 year old platform diver cried at her interview.  You could feel her pain of not making it to finals, but she should be happy and proud she made it as far as she has.  I’m willing to bet by 2010, this young girl is in her prime!!  The men’s 200m was an event to keep track of.  Sure, Bolt won and set a new world record, but that ended up not being the story.  First, the U.S. was disqualified for stepping on the line, losing him the bronze medal, but put another American in the place.  Next, they protested it, but found he did step on the line, but protested the silver medal won by Great Britain because he too stepped on the line.  That was won also.  That meant the guy from the U.S. that moved to the bronze spot now moved up to the silver medal.  Then, what would have been 5th place by another American, became the bronze medal winner.  The U.S. got gold and silver in the men’s decathlon.  All events will be wrapping up and the U.S. still has a slight lead.  The Dominican Republic and Netherlands Antilles has entered the medal count, but still nothing from Belgium.  Check out all the countries with a medal on this current medal count:

The Heart of a Champion

I’m in shock and awe of the U.S. women gymnasts right now.  It was an amazing night.  Tonight wasn’t about Phelps, although he did qualify for finals tomorrow.  Tonight was about gymnastics.  What a night it was.  The U.S. women went in there and poured their heart and soul into what they love.  Another example of what the Olympics are all about.  In a night that saw some scores too high for the routine and others marked quite hard, the U.S. came out on top.  Shawn Johnson is just the cutest little thing, but she’s all heart….and gymnastics.  I love watching her.  She walked away with a silver tonight, but it wasn’t a walk in the park.  Nastia Liukin got gold with her elegance and grace.  Watching these two on the podium made even me choke up.  When it was all said and done, these 2 friends were right there to congratulate each other on an event well done.  They truly have the heart of a champion.

In other events, the U.S. women won a tough match against Belgium to move on.  They’re now headed on to the elimination round.  This was also Miss K’s chance to see her Belgium team play.  And boy was she tore up as to who to root for.  She ended up screaming for both sides.  However, Walsh and May-Treanor came out on top!!

The U.S. also took home a silver in men’s 50m free rifle prone.  There were 2 more bronze in swimming, 1 for each men and women.  A U.S. weightlifter also set 2 records today which put him in contention for a medal on Friday.  Belgium is still without a medal, but even Egypt now has a bronze and Czech Republic has 3 medals.  A small French speaking country in Africa has a bronze in kayaking.  I know I haven’t been able to mention many other sports in my updates because NBC doesn’t have the best coverage.  I love most of the events that they are showing, but that’s leaving many events to pass by unnoticed.  I try to read up on them each night, but I’m usually doing too many things or just plain tired.  I do apologize for not having full coverage.  With that, tonight’s latest medal results are:
