Green Bay’s Playoffs End

Yesterday, we were so excited about the pending Packers vs. 49ers game.  We were bound and determined that the Packers were on the same route that they took to win the Super Bowl 2 years ago.  It just wasn’t so though.

Ultimately, no matter what we (the Packers) did, it wasn’t enough.  We lost.  Despite what sports reports say though, we weren’t blown away.  We lost 45-31.  That’s 14 points….2 touchdowns.  That’s not a beating by any means.  Now if you’re talking 4 touchdowns, that’s another story.

One thing I am is a Packers fan….win or lose!!  I was shocked to see some “fans” bashing them right away.  That’s not what fans do.  There’s good days and bad days for any team.  Heck, I remember bad years for Green Bay.  These “fans” later said that they were blowing off steam, they were drinking, or other excuses.  I get some of that, but come on, it’s a time to unite.  It’s definitely not a time to tear them down, insult players, or a number of other things.

So, that leads me to a pet peeve of mine!!  HAHA  If you’re a real Packers fan, you know that their colors are green and gold, NOT green and yellow.  I can’t stand all this stuff people make that say green and yellow on it.  Or they say they bleed green and yellow.  Sorry, but I don’t know who you’re rooting for then.  I know that I bleed green and gold, just like the team!!

Our playoffs, run for the Super Bowl, and season have come to an end for this year.  Now it’s time to rebuild and look to next season (and for us to put our jerseys away for now).  We have some players that are getting old and some that aren’t as productive as they should be.  In the next year or so, we also have some contracts that need to be renewed in order to stay the caliber team that we are….and need to be able to advance further.  I think the off-season will be interesting and lots of stuff going on for this team.  Onward and upward!!

Go Pack Go!!  I will forever bleed green and gold!!

London 2012: Days 14, 15, and 16

What a great Olympiad!!

Team USA ended things on a high note.  Our boys from the Thunder did us proud to help bring home the gold medal for Team USA basketball.  It was an awesome game!!  Australia squeaked by us in men’s water polo, but nothing wrong with a silver.

I gotta say that I wasn’t all that impressed with the Closing Ceremony.  It was sort of boring watching a bunch of models prancing around.  It just seemed off compared to the Opening Ceremony.  The opener was all about the history and people and the closing was pale in comparison to it.

Here’s the final medal count….

London 2012: Days 11, 12, and 13

It’s been an interesting couple of days at the Olympics.  I’ve only watched it spiratically, as I’ve had lots going on with homeschool lesson plans and such!!

One of the most surprising is that our men’s volleyball is out of the run for a medal.  So is our men’s water polo.

In the best news, we had no way of losing the medal in women’s beach volleyball.  Both of our teams played for GOLD!!  Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh ended up beating April Ross and Jennifer Kessy.  I think it’s only fitting that May-Treanor/Walsh won as Misty has made it clear that she’s retiring after these Olympics.  I’ve always loved them as a team and I can see the potential in Ross/Kessy.

I’ve pretty much lost respect for Usain Bolt.  I know that he’s an awesome runner and he’s accomplished so much.  He represents his country well.  He’s got a big head though.  He needs to learn how to be more humble and grateful.  On top of that, he’s bad mouthing Carl Lewis.  That just makes Bolt a total jerk!!  I just have no respect or interest in people like that.

Our women’s water polo went for their first gold!!  It was an amazing game and those girls earned it.

We’ve pulled quite a bit ahead in the medal count.  I’m so proud of Team USA!!  The current medal count is…..

London 2012: Days 8, 9, and 10

I have to admit, I haven’t been watching much of the Olympics the past couple of days. I just haven’t been in the mood. Plus, there’s been great movies on Summer Under the Stars on TCM.

I did catch Michael Phelps get the last of his gold medals. What a way to end a career!! Our women did great in swimming too.

Unfortunately with the ups comes some downs. Some of our key teams are out. We still have some really good chance in track & field and other games on the court. Time will tell now. The games are winding down a bit though.

Here’s the medal standings…..

London 2012: Days 6 and 7

It’s been an interesting couple of days at the Olympics.  At this point, the USA has taken the lead in the medal count.

Today we watched Dalhausser/Rogers lose their beach volleyball match.  That puts them out of getting a medal for these Olympics.  It’s really a shame, but it happens.

Our swimmers were HOT!!  Michael Phelps has a record number with one more to race to go.  That one will be a relay.  Our ladies are doing fantastic too.  I’m really enjoying the swimming this year.  I enjoyed what Phelps had to say about the young ones coming up.  Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was on hand to watch the events too!!

Gabby Douglas got the gold medal and 2 Soviet’s got the silver and bronze.  It was a tie with Ally of the US for the bronze, but in a tie breaker, the Soviet came out on top.

Women’s volleyball is on a roll too.  Women’s water polo wins again too.  Track and Field had many of their opening events as well.  The US earned the silver medal in shot-put.  That’s one that I did as a young girl!!

Here’s the latest medal count…..

London 2012: Days 3, 4, and 5

It’s been a busy time around the house and it’s been a great couple of days in Olympic action.  Where do I begin!?!?

It was amazing watching the women’s gymnastics!!  You just couldn’t help being totally wrapped up in the action.  You could feel that spirit and pride flow through you.  It was amazing and at the same time, it was hard to see the Russian’s in so much pain of missing out on medal.  Then again, it happened to our men’s team as well.

We got to see Michael Phelps get the record number of Olympic medals too.  So far, he’s pretty much shown up those on our own team who took aim at him.  Our women swimmers are doing great too.  Scored a couple more medals there!!

Beach volleyball is one of our favorites.  We saw May-Trainer and Walsh win their match.  The next day, Dalhausser and Rogers won theirs too, but it was a really close one.  The water polo match is so exciting.  Those guys are on a roll.  They’re not bad to look at either!!  HAHA

Men’s beach volleyball played today and they looked way better than the match we saw the other day.  They were on it!!  Women’s volleyball was amazing today!!  We beat China in 3 strait games, but the last one was a rough one.  There was 5 match points!!  We looked really rough in gymnastics, but one of our guys still took home the bronze.  One of the best views today was women’s swimming!!  I can’t tell you how exciting it was, as you just had to see it yourself.  Fantastic!!

London 2012: Day 2

Today was another great day of Olympics!!  Other than a break to watch the Brickyard 400, we watched Olympics all day long.  I have to say though, it was a great race!!  Jimmy Johnson won his 4th race at Indianapolis.  Best of all, Dale Jr took the points lead!!  WooHoo  It’s the first time since 2004 that he’s been in this position.

It was actually a day of disappointment in London too.  Ryan Lochte lost the lead in the 4x 100m.  Phelps had us in good position and Lochte had the final leg, but finished in 2nd.  We ended up with a silver medal out of it, but we really shouldn’t have lost that gold.  I say Lochte and Phelps are now tied up for the performances!!

In other sad news, Jordyn Wieber won’t be doing the all-around for Team USA.  She was scored incredibly unfair.  Trust me, that’s not just my opinion.  With the new format, only the top 2 scoring members of each country move on to the all-around.  For us, it’ll be Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.  Of course, Jordyn still gets to perform her individual routine, but it’s a shame that the reigning World Champion won’t go to the all-around.

Rhodes took the gold medal in clay shooting.  She’s totally awesome!!  Also, Dana Vollmer not only got the gold, but set the new world record for the 100m butterfly.  She was flawless in the pool!!  In the ladies synchronized 3m springboard diving, we got a silver and they were fascinating to watch.

The other big event that we watched today was men’s water polo.  We beat Montenegro.  It wasn’t a medal round, but it was a great game and sends us on!!

Today’s medal count is…..

London 2012: Day 1

For those that follow my blog or are regular readers, you know that I absolutely love the Olympics.  I’ve been looking forward to this time for months.  I’m all about TEAM USA!!  Being such a fan, I post regular medal counts and often give my opinions of the day’s events.  It doesn’t mean I’ll post them every day or that I won’t have regular posts during this time.  However, I do enjoy them and hope that you like my coverage of the Olympics.

I think the biggest story is probably Michael Phelps not getting a medal today in the 400 IM.  However, we did get a gold medal with Ryan Lochte in the same event.  It was quite exciting!!  No matter, I still think Phelps is going to get at least a couple medals this year.  Our women’s beach volleyball squeaked one through today and move on, as well as the woman’s volleyball taking a win.

Our men’s archery got a bronze today.  I just love watching that.  I did archery often when I was little and loved it even then.  The bows they use for competition is so different than what I used in school though.  The other 3 medals that we got today all came in swimming events.  I watched the ladies 4x and was yelling for them to pull ahead.

Here’s today’s medal count…..

We usually pick an additional country to root for. Kiddo likes Switzerland and Belgium. I’m a fan of Great Britain and Australia.  Who are you rooting for??  What’s your favorite event??

Versatile Blogger Award

Thanks to misstatejones for liking my blog enough to present it with The Versatile Blogger award!!  The requirements for this blog reward are to recognize the blog who gave you the award in a post, write 7 things about myself that others may not know, and then nominate another 15-20 blogs for the award.  I don’t know if I can nominate that many blogs since I’m not out there reading blogs as much as I used to, but I’m going to give it my best shot.  So here it goes….

7 Things About Me

1.  Cell phones are a pet peeve of mine.  I dislike being in a restaurant and hearing a phone ring and then the person answer it and talk very loudly.  Excuse me, I went out to get away from home with distractions, so let me enjoy my meal in peace.  Even worse is anyone who drives while on the cell phone!!  Don’t tell me you can’t pull off the road and NOT hit me or wait until you get where you’re going to make that call.

2.  I wear reading glasses ONLY!!

3.  I’m the sports fan in the house, although I’ve turned Miss K onto certain sports.  I’m a Dale Jr. fan and I don’t care how long it takes him to win his next race.  I’m also a born and bred Green Bay Packers fan.  So much so, that my blood flows green and gold!!  I also enjoy college football and follow several different teams.  I’m not into many other pro sports, but I do keep up with the Milwaukee Bucks and the OKC Thunder in basketball and the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers in baseball.

4.  Everyone that reads my blog knows that I teach a religion class.  Most don’t know how I got my position though!!  The DRE put an ad for a volunteer religion teacher in the church bulletin and I spent 2 weeks reading it over and over.  I knew her pretty well because Miss K was enrolled in classes.  However, I didn’t think she’d even be interested in me being a catechist.  I was finally encouraged to ask her, although I was sure after that amount of time that the position was filled.  Low and behold, when I asked her she yelled and said “YES, I’d love to have you” and I asked if the position wasn’t already filled and she said “it is NOW” (or something to that effect)!!  I’ve been doing it ever since and haven’t looked back….it was meant to be.

5.  I was a good student in school and even took some AP (advanced placement) classes.

6.  I dislike cats very much!!  It doesn’t matter where we’ve lived, but especially here, cat owners are horrible and so are their cats.  My dogs potty in our own yard, but cats around us always find our yard and dig up my plants or potty all over our yard.  They also deposit flees that we fight every year.

7.  I very much want a 1977 black Pontiac Trans Am.  Yes, I’m referring to the Smokey and the Bandit TA!!

Blogs Nominated for The Versatile Blogger

1.  Bethanne Strasser – She’s a frequent commenter of my blog and I see her “chat” mostly on Twitter

2.  Training Happy Hearts – Martianne is a member of my Christian group and shares amazing stuff on her blog

3.  My Life:  Part II – J. Fabulous is a commenter on my blog and shares the trials of weight loss surgery and life on their blog

4.  Cat Patches – Barbara has a blog about quilting, life and hosts a great photo meme called Foto Finish

5.  My Shae Noel – Shauna is an ex-member of my educational group and a great online friends that shares printables and more on her blog

6.  Under the Loupe – Annette is a Aussie blogger and jewelry designer and I’ve kept up with her forever

7.  Montesorri Tidbits – Leann has a great Montessori-based homeschool blog

8.  Our Little Man – Stephanie is a mom that has a special little man and I just love seeing what they’re up to

9.  Creative Learning Fun – Elizabeth is homeschooling mom of a special little girl and she shares tons of free materials

10.  Seeds of Knowledge – The blog of a wonderful kindergarten teacher, Jenea, that shares tons of ideas, printables, and more

I think that about covers it!!  If I come up with more blogs, I’ll just add them to this list.  I’m so honored that misstatejones nominated me for this blog award.  It means so much to me and I’m thrilled that my materials are getting out there and being used!!

Rain Delay Becomes Race Cancelled

For most of the winter, we look forward to the beginning of race season.  We’re true NASCAR fans!!  Winter isn’t totally miserable because we do have the Green Bay Packers and they’re the ultimate!!  However, racing is a pure adrenaline rush and there’s so much hype leading up to opening day.

Now granted, we have had the Bud Shootout and the Gatorade Duals, but it’s still not the main event.  It’s not opening day of racing season!!

For the first time in history, the Daytona 500 was cancelled postponed!!  It started as a rain delay and looked like the skies might clear.  As the hours went on, it didn’t look so good.  The dryers even made it out on the track when the skies opened up again.  Had it stayed clear, we could have had a night race because Daytona is equipped, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

With all the wild rides and excitement of the events leading up to today, the truck race and the Nationwide race, I can’t help but feel today was cancelled postponed for a reason.  Jeff Gordon took a wild ride at the Shootout.  There’s been crazy wrecks all weekend in the other racing events.  Today just had to be a way of God looking out for these race car drivers.  I know many will disagree with me, but I believe everything happens for a reason.  It just wasn’t meant to be today.

We should have a pretty fun and exciting Monday though!!  (Alright, so it’s not cancelled….it’s postponed.)  Let’s go racing boys….and let’s WIN Jr!!

At One Month

No, I haven’t fallen off the face of Earth. I’m just taking full advantage of every day and now that I feel so good, I’m even more busy than I ever was before.

So now I’m at one month post-op.  I go in tomorrow for my first fill.  I’m a little nervous about the needle, but I know it’ll be alright.  At my one week appointment, I’d lost a total of 20 pounds between the liquid diet and the surgery.  Over the next 3 weeks, I put on 3 pounds and got very frustrated because I wasn’t losing anything.  I knew in my head that I had to give it time, but my heart was breaking.  Today when I weighed myself, I’d lost all 3 of the pounds that I gained, just this week!!  I’m so happy and I can see where I’m going now and what it’s going to take.

I eat about 4 ounces of food at 3 meals and I generally have one small snack.  I never eat more than the 4 oz., but I sometimes do have less.  If I’m really not hungry, I’ll revert back to something on the liquid diet so that I do have some protein intake.

I also exercise 4 days a week for 30 minutes each day.  Lately, I’ve really amped it up and have sweated my butt off.  Kiddo works out right along side of me.  We really have fun.  Then on Wednesday’s, we walk the mall.  There’s a walking route in there and if out walk the outside perameter of the inside of the mall, you’ve walked 7/10 of a mile in one lap.  If you walk one and a half laps, you’ve walked a full mile.  I haven’t made it that far yet, but considering 2 months ago I didn’t even walk, that’s HUGE progress!!  Hubby and I also intend to walk every other Saturday in the mall.  I really enjoy it because I don’t have to worry about weather, dogs, and anything else associated with walking the streets….and here, there’s no sidewalks.  Generally, Saturday and Sunday are my days of rest.

I’ve done a ton of work around the house.  Things that I’d been lacking just because I didn’t have the energy.  I can’t wait to tackle even more projects and I just don’t spend much time at all on the computer any more.  That alone feels great!!

I’ll try not to wait so long before I blog again.  I’d really love to get some of my photography up.  Maybe once I get work in the house done, I can even go out shooting and see what I can get now that I move so much better!!  So, I’ll catch you soon and in the mean time, be healthy!!

Family Workout

The family here at Commotion has a brand new routine!!  Every evening (except for Wednesday when we have religious education), Lean Green comes home from work, lets the dogs out, and then he changes clothes.  We then begin a family workout!!

We’ve been exercising about 15-20 minutes each evening.  We expect this time to increase as we get more used to our routine.  Heck, even the dogs have been getting in on it!!  When we’re done, we all do our part to cook dinner and have it on the table by a decent time so that the workout doesn’t go to waste by sitting the rest of the night.

So far it’s working out well.  Granted we’re only in our first week, but we’re all enjoying the time together.  We’re really liking feeling better!!  Miss K was really sore that first day and we had a good laugh about that considering how much younger she is than than us.  She’s just taking it all in stride!!

Miss K and I are really working on our lower bellies.  I never got rid of the baby pouch, even after all these years and she takes after Momma!!  The routine that her and I use is from here, which I found on Pinterest.  If that doesn’t work, you can see it here.  While we’re doing that, hubby runs in place or does some of his Army exercises.

I’m still on the waiting list for the lap band, but there’s been no word in ages.  I’m going to call again this week.  At this rate though, I won’t need the surgery!!  HAHA

So what does your family do for fitness??  Do you take any time to work out together or alone??  Have you ever considered doing it??  I’d love to know what you all do, if anything at all.  Goodness knows that even though we’re fairly busy, we’ve never done anything like this until now.  I think we’ll all benefit in the long run though.
