Foto Finish: Fireworks

FotoFinish button1

This is my first week back with Foto Finish, so I wanted to share a photo that I’ve really been working on.  Well, I’m really trying to capture lightening, but I also love fireworks.  Since we just celebrated the 4th of July last week, I thought I’d share a photo that I took of fireworks.

Here’s a shot of a fireworks display that I took….

FotoFinish-Fireworks

This was a display put on by the local golf course and it was taken from my backyard.  We are about a mile or 2 from the golf course.  It’s gotten more challenging because the trees have really grown up around all the houses, so I really had to try to capture the “big ones”

What’s your best or favorite shot of the week….or any time??  Please join in Foto Finish and show it off!!  Want to know more about Foto Finish, just click here.  Grab the button above, link it to this post on your blog (or wherever you share your photos), and enter the linky below.

I can’t wait to see what your Foto Finish is!!

James Garner

As soon as we got home from church, we saw that James Garner was trending. It was sad to find out that he’d passed away of natural causes.

james-garner00

He starred in over 50 films, but he’s best known for his television roles in “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files”.  James was born James Scott Bumgarner in Norman, OK on 7 April 1928.  He was married to Lois Fleishman Clarke in 1956 and at his passing, they were less than a month from their 58th anniversary.

RIP James “Maverick” Rockford” Garner!!  You’ll be missed by many for your charisma, comedy, handsome looks, and so many other things that made you who you were!!

Montessori Stations

I’ve been trying to decide what printables to make for Easter.  While taking notes for the ideas that are going through my head, I found some beautiful art work for Stations of the Cross.

I decided to make some Montessori inspired 3-part cards.  Each card has the beautiful art work on it to match to the clearly marked station, along with the event.  These are quite ink intensive, but I believe that they’re well worth it.  I think these are going to be a lovely addition to a lesson on the Stations of the Cross.

Here’s a sample of the 3-part cards….

Holy Week Cross Craft

This is the (uncolored sample) project that I did with my class tonight for Holy Week.

For this craft project, we colored the events of Holy Week.  Then, we cut them and the cross out.  Next they colored the paper plate with yellow, orange, and red so that it’d look like a sunset behind the cross.  (You could also use paint for the paper plate.)  I then read a story to the kids about the events of Holy Week and we placed the colored pictures on the cross in sequence order as we read about them.  Finally, we wrapped the purple ribbon around the cross and glued it to the paper plate.

Full instructions, the cross template, and coloring images for the events of Holy Week for this craft are included in the download.  The cross has to be printed on legal size paper.  If possible, I suggest using cards stock in legal size so that it’s more rigid.  I did mine on paper though and it worked just fine.  There is also a second version included that’s just printed on legal size paper, but you don’t have to mount it to the paper plate.

If you’re interested in doing this Holy Week Cross, just click to…..

I hope that you’re kids enjoy this project as much as mine did.  When we completed it, they all wanted to see what each others turned out like since they all color a little differently and I had 4 different purple ribbons.  They all ran to their parents saying “look what I made” and “see my pretty cross”.  So satisfying to see them that happy!!

Pink Slip

Today, hubby was handed his pink slip.  We pretty much knew it was coming.  They’ve let so many people go and they’ve been holding regular meetings with those that are left.  It’s all due to the massive budget cuts.  I can’t believe this administration can keep spending money like there’s an endless supply, but can’t pay government employees and contractors.  It’s just ridiculous.

If the Obama administration got rid of some of his employees and quit taking million dollar vacations, the rest of the government employees and contractors would be working.  As is, DoD employees are going to be furloughed and that forces them to get much less pay.  Contractors are having to let employees go because even though the government signed contracts, there is no money.  Yet, Obama has the largest staff of ANY president and none of them make less than $100,000 a year.  That would pay 2-3 people at my husbands pay.

Anyway, as hubby was handed his pink slip, he was told to head over to Human Resources.  He did that and was told that he got another job that he’d applied for, so he won’t be without a job.  However, he will be taking a $5 per hour cut in pay.  That’s absolutely huge for us, but at least he’ll be working.  Thanks to all the meetings, he submitted his resume early and was able to get this chance to move into another job.

We’re very thankful that God watches over this family.  It is because he is so good that we’re going to be alright during this time when so many are suffering.  We’re thankful for what we have and will make it work for us and we’re praying for those that were let go the same time as hubby or are facing furloughs!!
