Flashback Friday: The Final Countdown

It’s been forever since I posted a Flashback Friday, so I thought it was time to get started again. I hope that you enjoy it!!

Flashback Friday 3button 2x2

This one is going to focus on “The Final Countdown”.  In case you don’t know what that is, it’s a song by the Swedish group Europe in 1986.  It was their third album and became a #1 hit in 25 different countries.

Europe-the_final_countdown So why am I talking about this song and this 80’s group??  Well, because they’ve revived this song in a new Geico commercial.  Hubby and I can’t help but to laugh every time we see it.  It brings back so many memories.  Hubby really gets a chuckle out of it, but part of that is because of the guy in the commercial too.

It’s good to see some “old” things revived like this!!  In case you haven’t seen it yet, check out the video to the commercial….

I hope that you join in the Flashback Friday link-up and share your flashbacks.  What do you have good memories of??  Link up and let me know!!

Nativity Printables

Those of you who follow my blog know that I love to post about printable nativities. This year is no exception!!

Nativity-Play

I didn’t think that I had many new or fresh ideas this year.  It seems like most of what’s out there, I’ve already posted in previous years.  If you’re looking for those previous posts, just search “nativity”.  That’ll pull up (or at least it should pull up) other posts about the nativity.

Here’s a free nativity paper craft.  It’s the Paper Nativity by Daniel Swartz.  I think this one is pretty fun and simple to do for kids of all ages.  I’ve blogged about this one before, but my daughter did it this year with her 3rd grade class and they loved it, so I just had to share again.  It’s the Nativity Scene (Joyfully Expanded) from Made by Joel.  Here’s a printable nativity scene for The Birth of Lord Jesus.  This one is a free nativity stencil pattern.  You can also download a free manger scene for Advent if you click here.  It’s from Sisters of St. Joseph/Good Ground Press and has a short form to fill out to access the download.

I don’t remember if I’ve shared this one or not, but it’s a DIY:  Make Your Own Nativity from Marloes de Vries.   Ministry-to-Children has this nativity playset.  You can click here for a fun Nativity Fold a House Craft.  “Build Your Own Nativity Printables” is a nativity based on basic shapes.  Last but not least, here’s a 3D manger.

I’d also like to let you know about a couple nativity printables in my stores.  I’m rather fond of them and the kids in my class have really enjoyed making and using them.  I hope that you’ll check them out.  First is the title, then the link to TPT, and then the link to Teachers Notebook.

The Nativity Mobile  TPT  TN

Who Is Watching Baby Jesus? Game  TPT  TN

The First Christmas Story Wheels  TPT  TN

That’s all that I have for you right now.  I hope that you enjoy all the free printable nativities and that you’ll check out my shops to see what I have to help keep “Jesus is the reason for the season”!!

I Am Special Activity

Last year, I did a really fun activity with my kids. They loved it then and they really loved it again this year. So, I just had to share!!

IAmSpecial ActivityPage byElaineG@TheSchoolhouse SAMPLE

In the big open space, they draw a picture of themselves. They need to see what makes them special like the color of their hair, skin, eyes, and so on. Of course, they’re little ones, so they’re far from perfect, but they sure are fun!!

There’s also an area to put stickers down with their name on them or glue letters down. There’s also a blank line for them to write their names. On the side, there’s a cute poem about being unique. Finally, on the side, they can also put their fingerprint under the magnifying glass. Why??  Because each of us has a fingerprint that is unique to only us!!  To do this part, we just used an ink pad.

If you’re interested in this activity page, just click to….

Here are some photos my kids in action with this page this year.  You’ll notice that I forgot my stickers at home, so we made due and used letter beads!!

I Am Special

If you use this page, please leave a comment and let me know if your kids enjoyed it as much as mine did!!

Welcome to the Adult World

Happy 18th Birthday

Today is my little girls 18th birthday!! I can’t believe how fast time has gone.  She’s an amazing girl woman who brings joy to everyone that she touches.  She has a smile that brightens the world around her.  I’m so proud to be her Momma and I’m honored that God chose me to take care of this angel.

She has hopes and dreams….and I have no doubts that she’ll accomplish all of the, one way or the other.  She gives it her all in everything that she does.  She has a faith that runs deep and never doubts what God has planned for her.

As I reflect on the past 18 years, all I have is love and joy.  I know she’s not perfect, she is mine after all.  She’s truly a great kid woman and has a bright future.  I remember being told I couldn’t have kids and I remember the day I found out that I was pregnant.  Life would never be the same!!  She has always done things her way and she has amazing strength….and some that she doesn’t even know she has.  She was my partner all the times that hubby was gone due to military life.  Her dad is her buddy and they enjoy getting in trouble together.  Through it all, she knows that we’re her parents and love her unconditionally.

18th Birthday

Happy Birthday sweet girl young lady!!  Daddy and I wish you all the best today….and every day of your life to come.  We can’t wait to see what lies ahead!!  You may be grown up, but you’ll always be our little girl!!  😀

Macro: Mushroom

It’s time for another macro for Monday.  I went back in time for this one.  This is about 2 years old and was taken at my parents house.  They’d been having a rainy year, so there was all kinds of mushrooms all over their yard.

Check out this brightly colored mushroom….

Longhorns

I just downloaded these from my camera and I just had to share at least one of them!!

We went to the Wildlife Refuge after the rains. It was amazing to see everything to alive and bright since we’ve had a drought the past couple of years. There were huge herds of longhorns enjoying the green grass. Some were grazing and some were just laying around.

The Good Shepherd

Last week, we worked on The Good Shepherd in my religion class.  I enjoy teaching this one to the kids to help them understand how loved we are.  We are protected by his love and his son, Jesus, died for us.

GoodShepherdSheepMatch worksheet&coloringpage byElaineG SAMPLE

I made 2 things for my class to use.  The first is a worksheet.  It’s to match Jesus and his sheep to a sheep on the page.  A line is drawn to match the 2 and then colored to match each other.  The next item is a coloring page.  It’s Jesus among the sheep with the verse from John 10:11 (NAS).
