At a Loss

Yes, I’m at a loss, but not about life or anything like that.  I lost weight today!!

I’m so happy that I can say I’m finally moving past the plateau.  For weigh-in today, I lost 1.8 pounds.  That’s the most that I’ve lost in a week since June.  I just can’t help but to feel that I’m headed in the right direction again.  It’s a good feeling!!

I had ever intention of getting back to a regular daily exercise routine, but I haven’t been able to get that far yet.  I’m just so busy.  I have been exercising, but not like my 30 minute daily routine.  It’s most important that I don’t just skip it though. Also, eating at home really helps!!  I don’t think people realize how bad eating out really is for them.  My entire family can tell the difference.

The most important thing with this fill is that I’ve had to learn how to eat all over again.  I really haven’t had this experience before.  My first fills were right after surgery.  Then, it was too much and caused me to vomit.  Because of that, I had some removed.  I had to watch what I ate, but it was still easy to get it down.  This time, it’s really closed it up, but still lets the food pass.  I have to totally wait at least 4 hours and sometimes 6 hours.  It all depends on what my previous meal was.  The more course the food is, the longer it takes to settle.

I have to say, I’m enjoying this new feeling!!  Oh, and hubby says he can see the weight loss.  I think he’s crazy, but you know at this point, it all counts!!

London 2012: Day 2

Today was another great day of Olympics!!  Other than a break to watch the Brickyard 400, we watched Olympics all day long.  I have to say though, it was a great race!!  Jimmy Johnson won his 4th race at Indianapolis.  Best of all, Dale Jr took the points lead!!  WooHoo  It’s the first time since 2004 that he’s been in this position.

It was actually a day of disappointment in London too.  Ryan Lochte lost the lead in the 4x 100m.  Phelps had us in good position and Lochte had the final leg, but finished in 2nd.  We ended up with a silver medal out of it, but we really shouldn’t have lost that gold.  I say Lochte and Phelps are now tied up for the performances!!

In other sad news, Jordyn Wieber won’t be doing the all-around for Team USA.  She was scored incredibly unfair.  Trust me, that’s not just my opinion.  With the new format, only the top 2 scoring members of each country move on to the all-around.  For us, it’ll be Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.  Of course, Jordyn still gets to perform her individual routine, but it’s a shame that the reigning World Champion won’t go to the all-around.

Rhodes took the gold medal in clay shooting.  She’s totally awesome!!  Also, Dana Vollmer not only got the gold, but set the new world record for the 100m butterfly.  She was flawless in the pool!!  In the ladies synchronized 3m springboard diving, we got a silver and they were fascinating to watch.

The other big event that we watched today was men’s water polo.  We beat Montenegro.  It wasn’t a medal round, but it was a great game and sends us on!!

Today’s medal count is…..

London 2012: Day 1

For those that follow my blog or are regular readers, you know that I absolutely love the Olympics.  I’ve been looking forward to this time for months.  I’m all about TEAM USA!!  Being such a fan, I post regular medal counts and often give my opinions of the day’s events.  It doesn’t mean I’ll post them every day or that I won’t have regular posts during this time.  However, I do enjoy them and hope that you like my coverage of the Olympics.

I think the biggest story is probably Michael Phelps not getting a medal today in the 400 IM.  However, we did get a gold medal with Ryan Lochte in the same event.  It was quite exciting!!  No matter, I still think Phelps is going to get at least a couple medals this year.  Our women’s beach volleyball squeaked one through today and move on, as well as the woman’s volleyball taking a win.

Our men’s archery got a bronze today.  I just love watching that.  I did archery often when I was little and loved it even then.  The bows they use for competition is so different than what I used in school though.  The other 3 medals that we got today all came in swimming events.  I watched the ladies 4x and was yelling for them to pull ahead.

Here’s today’s medal count…..

We usually pick an additional country to root for. Kiddo likes Switzerland and Belgium. I’m a fan of Great Britain and Australia.  Who are you rooting for??  What’s your favorite event??

Plateau

Things have been pretty busy around here, but I’ll get into that on another blog post.  For now, I’m just going to update my weight loss…..or lack there of.

I had my doctor appointment yesterday.  It went really well, although the weight loss news wasn’t good.  It seems that since my last appointment, I gained 2 pounds.  However, the doc told me not to worry.  He assured me that it’s actually not considered a gain, but it was a plateau.  The doc said that 5 lbs. or more is a gain.  That felt good to know that and know that he was so understanding about it.

The doc put in 0.5 cc fill in.  He said that considering it’s been since April since I had a fill, I’d done really well.  He said that plateaus do happen and it’s about time that I got one.  I actually forgot that it’d been that long since I had a fill because as long as I was losing, I didn’t need one.  This is the first month that I actually didn’t lose anything.  Up to now, I’d lost something and it was going slow and steady.

In addition to that, he checked my labs for my UTI.  He was surprised that my family doc hadn’t called me with an update on the lab results.  He ended up prescribing me 2 antibiotics.  They both last 10 days, then I have to do labs again.  I’m so glad that he cared enough to take care of it.  Care in the military like that is hard to find.  Maybe once and for all, I’ll finally get rid of this UTI!!

Maybe with that fixed, I’ll be more ready to exercise.  Kiddo and I have been working out, but not as regular as we were.  Between the heat, the UTI, and just being really busy, we’ve slacked off a little.  I can’t say enough to effect weight loss though.  We do something everyday, maybe just not for the full 30 minutes.  The worst one can do is to not do anything at all, so we’re always doing something even if it’s just the aerobic step.  I can tell you, that thing works too!!  My legs look great and are so tight.  I can’t remember the last time they looked this way!!  HAHA

So, my weight loss is halted at about 43 lbs. after 6 months.  I still have 30 lbs. to go, but I have no doubts that I’ll get there now.  I can already tell the difference in my eating.  I can barely take anything in and I’m stuffed!!  That of course, is a good things.  Looking forward to seeing the pounds come off again.  I feel great, but I’m ready for the next size down and I’m ready to see that final goal….or at least get closer to it.  One step at a time and no worrying!!

So there you have it.  My 6 month point after the lap-band and a plateau.  Moving on now!!

Flashback Friday: Singin’ in the Rain

Today for Flashback Friday, I’m going back to a movie that TCM celebrated yesterday for it’s 60th anniversary, Singin’ in the Rain.  This movie was shown again on the big screen in select theaters across the US.  It was originally released 27 March 1952 in NY and 9 April 1952 in LA.  At the time, it wasn’t considered to be that good of a movie.
Singin' in the Rain movie poster
Singin’ in the Rain had an all-star cast with Gene Kelly (Don Lockwood), Donald O’Connor (Cosmo Brown), and Debbie Reynolds (Kathy Selden).  It also featured Jean Hagen (Lina Lamont) and Cyd Charisse.  The film was directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelley and it was produced by Arthur Freed.    The premise (from IMDb) is “a silent film production company and cast make a difficult transition to sound. “  This leads to lots of laughs….and plenty of dancing!!
Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, and Gene Kelly dance
Gene Kelly by far has one of the best scenes in the movie.  That would be the singing/dancing scene in the rain.  The fact that it’s filmed in Technicolor helps to add to many of the parts of the movie, including this one.  As only Don Lockwood could sing and dance it…..

Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo…

I’m singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin’
I’m happy again
I’m laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun’s in my heart
And I’m ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I’ve a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin’,
Singin’ in the rain

Dancin’ in the rain
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
I’m happy again!
I’m singin’ and dancin’ in the rain!

I’m dancin’ and singin’ in the rain…

Gene Kelly in the famous dance scene in the rain
Donald O’Connor has some great lines in this film too!!  He’s also an amazing dance talent himself.  Cosmo Brown can “make ’em laugh” with lines like, “Short people have long faces, and long people have short faces. Big people have little humor, and little people have no humor at all. ” He also delivered some zingers to Lina.
Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly
Debbie Reynolds is spectacular through the whole movie.  She’s cute and perky.  Most of all, she’s right on cue with both men in the dance scenes.  She’s a true pro and has such natural talent.  I think this part was made for her!!

Umbrella dance scene
To me, this is one of the greatest musicals of all time.  The elements of comedy keep it fun and entertaining.  The amount of pure talent is just amazing throughout the entire film.  Despite all this, I’ve also read that this is on-point enough to be a documentary to the changing times when Hollywood first went to talkies.  This is a must-see movie whether your an avid classic movie fan, a musical lover, or even just someone who occasionally appreciates the oldies.  This is a feel-good movie that will make you want to get up and sing and dance yourself!!  Don’t be surprised if the next time it rains, you grab your umbrella and so splash around some puddles!!

All photos and images from internet sources and believed to be public domain. Any watermarks, etc. remain in tact.

Did you go to the theater to see Singin’ in the Rain or did you honor this special anniversary in another way?? To find out what Flashback Friday is, check out this and link up below to join in!!

Moving Right Along

Things around here are moving right along.  I really can’t believe how fast summer is going!!

Miss K and I got our hair cut today.  It feels great to have it in shape and more comfortable for the hot weather.  Other than my hair thinning even more, it really looks good.  There’s just really no way to cover the “bald patch” any more.  Not only did I inherit it, but hair loss is a side effect of bariatric surgery.  Big old double whammy for me!!

I lost 0.6 lb today.  Same thing that I lost last week.  I know I’m not gaining, but this is slow!!  I figure as much as I work my butt off with big chores around the house and exercising every day, the weight should be coming off faster.  This plateau is lasting just way too long for ME!!  I think when I go for my appointment in a couple weeks, I’m going to tell the doc to do at least 0.5 cc, if not a full cc.  I haven’t decided yet and some of it will be up to him.  And no, I’m really not eating any more or snacking between meals.  I just think that tightening up the lap-band will help kick the weight loss in gear again.  I just don’t want to take it to the puking stage!!  HAHA  Once for that was enough.

I’ve cleaned out the hall closet.  There’s actually room in there!!  I put our coats and sweaters all on matching hangers and it’s so much more organized that way.  There’s no extra hangers either to get caught on when you’re trying to put something away.  They all take up less room this way too!!  I also have better access to the spare bathroom rugs, the suitcases are in the back out of the way and the vacuum can easily be pulled out and used.  I can’t believe how much I got rid of!!

Last Friday, kiddo and I served the meal after a funeral at church.  It was a great experience and I’d definitely do it again.  I was asked by my DRE if I’d help her out and I usually love stepping up to things like that, so I told her that Miss K and I would do it.  It’s great to be there for a family during that time.

After we were done with that, we took 4 garbage bags of stuff to the church thrift store.  Most of it was my old clothes.  I can’t tell you how good it feels to get rid of all that stuff.  I’ve battled my weight so long, that despite having some thinner moments, I had clothes that were 15-20 years old!!  Yes, they really were that old.  I got rid of stuff that I got at Lane Bryant when we were stationed in GA.  That was the early 1990’s!!  HAHA  I even got rid of some shoes, but they were quickly replaced!!  I’ve gotten some really great shoes lately.  Best of all, they were all on some sort of sale.  Some of them, there was even a sale on the sale.  Now a girl with a shoe thing can’t beat that!!

It’s been so hot outside, that I really haven’t been taking any new photos.  I have plenty to post, but I haven’t even done that.  I guess I really should get back on my photo memes, but I don’t want to get burned out or bore people with them.  I must say though, I can’t wait to meet the local photography group.  I think it’ll be fun and I might learn lots of new stuff!!  Best of all, I might not be so critical of my photos.

Miss K is still working on Algebra I when we’re not busy with appointments and such.  She really is liking it.  I know that’s odd for a kid to like math, but she does.  When she gets started, she flies through several lessons at a time.  She says she’ll be ready for Geometry when the new homeschool year starts.  I just hope that I am!!  HAHA  Oye….high school!!

That’s about it for now.  What’s going on in your world??

Happy 4th of July!!

America….home of the free, because of the brave.  Never forget that without our founding forefathers who sought religious freedoms, we wouldn’t be the country that we are today.  It’s also a time to remember our men and women who’ve fought to keep this country free and still give their lives for us.

Happy Birthday America….Happy Independence Day!!

Time Off

I know that I haven’t been blogging much lately. I’m just sort of taking a break from it.  I have many things around the house to get caught up on and summer has just really been off to a busy start.

Things around The Schoolhouse are good.  We’re working hard on finishing up Algebra I this summer.  Miss K has to work on several lessons a day so that we can complete it before starting the new school year.  I’m really proud of her though because she’s handling it all with a smile and good spirit.  I actually think she’s enjoying just working on this one class because she can just focus on it and not have to worry about everything else.

My weight loss has hit a plateau and I’m so frustrated.  Today I only lost 0.6 lb. and that’s just not enough to suit me.  I’m not even back down to where I was before I gained all that water weight.  That puts me at 8 lbs. to lose in order to reach my 6 month goal.  At this rate, I’m surely not going to make it.  I know I should just accept it and know that everyone hits a plateau, but I’m not eating much and I’m exercising every day.  I’m doing what I should be and I just feel that with the surgery, I really shouldn’t hit the wall like this.  I just want to keep moving ahead and I feel like I’m dead in my tracks right now.  Frustrating!!

Weekends, we’ve been doing chores around the house.  Every night, we go out and water the trees.  We’re just hoping to get them through this long hot summer.  I can’t believe what that little bit of watering has done to our water bill though.  Crazy!!  It’s worth it though if we can get the roots established to the little baby trees.  Even so, it’s going to take years before they’re really trees.  HAHA  Who knows if we’ll ever really see them at their full potential!!

Tomorrow, we’re just going to grill some burgers and enjoy some family time.  Not much you can do when the holiday is in the middle of the week!!  It’s still going to be a good (hot) day and I know we’ll enjoy it.  Lean Green really is looking forward to having a day off.  He works in this heat, so any break is a welcome relief for him.

Next week, I order our curriculum for the next homeschool year and I’ll start planning for next year’s religious education class.  Time to start doing all the prep work!!  I like having things ready and having an idea of ahead of time for what we’ll be doing and putting stuff aside for it.  For me, I can’t plan far enough ahead!!  HAHA

I think that about covers it all.  I’m still trying to post photos for the memes that I participate in.  I really enjoy sharing my photography.  It’s been so hot though that there’s not much to take pics of!!  I’m hoping to go out to the Refuge soon and see if there’s anything new for me to capture.  I’m also going to keep post my Flashback Friday, although there doesn’t seem to be much interest in other joining in.  I have fun with it though and maybe it I keep at it, it’ll spread!!

What do you have going on??
