Hollywood Has Lost Another

Posted by on 28 February 2011

Today, Hollywood lost another classic movie star.  Jane Russell died from respitory failure today at the age of 89.  To most, she’s remembered as the curvy actress that was an obsession of Howard Hughes.

Jane was also known as the most famous pin-up girl of World War II.  At the time, Jane Russell was one of the “curviest” women in Hollywood.  Bob Hope once introduced her with a joke about her breasts and there’s peaks in Alaska named for them!!

Jane was born Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell in Minnesota.  She modeled on the side and got her start in Hollywood by signing with Howard Hughes.  He held releasing her first film “The Outlaw” for many years.  The reason….her figure!!  She married her high school sweetheart and had 3 children with him.  They later divorced.  She remarried 2 more times, with both of dying while they were married.  She also adopted children with her second 2 husbands.  Jane was very passionate about adoption and her organization has successfully placed thousands of children.

Other films to her credit are “Gentlemen Prefer Blonds”, “His Kind of Woman”, “The Paleface”, and “Double Dynamite”.  Her hand and foot impressions are outside of Grauman’s Chinese Theater and her star is on the Hollywood Walk of  Fame on Hollywood Boulevard.  Jane’s been rated as one of the Most Iconic Movie Goddesses.

Go in peace Jane Russell.  You’re joining some of the best that Hollywood had to offer “back in the day”!!  You’ll be missed.
