What Dog Breed Are You?

Kiddo and I participated in a cute and fun quiz today.  It’s called “What Dog Breed Are You?”.  Since we’re all dog lovers, it only seemed right that we check it out and see how we scored.

Here’s my results…..

What dog breed are you? I'm a Golden Retriever! Find out at Dogster.com

And this is what is said about me and my breed….

Golden Retriever

The Charmer

Laid-back, sociable and well-groomed, you’ve got your own hip little pack of groupies who just love to be around you. You have a brain inside that adorable little head of yours, though you use it mostly to organize your hectic social calendar. You never poop out at parties, and since you’re popular with ladies and men, as well as children and adults, you dish out your wit, charm and luck to whomever is close enough to bask in it. The top dog likes you and wants to be your best friend, despite the fact that he doesn’t really know what the heck you do. No one does, in fact, but everyone loves you all the same. A true foodie, you’ve got your keen ears fine-tuned to make sure you don’t miss out on the opening of a trendy new place to nosh. But your youthful days of being able to wolf down food 24-7 are wagging behind you, meaning you’ve got to watch what you eat so you don’t pull a Brando and outgrow your coats.

And here’s Miss K’s results….

What dog breed are you? I'm a Labrador Retriever! Find out at Dogster.com

This is what it said about kiddo and her breed…..

Labrador Retriever

The Caretaker

Your family is what makes you tick, and you never “flea” from an opportunity to hang out with the whole gang. A family picnic complete with hot dogs, deviled eggs and a refreshing swim in the lake is hard for you to stray from. Your sparky temperament and dogged intelligence mean you are not only a blast to hang out with, but great to work with as well. Your close pals appreciate your patience and forgiveness, knowing you’d rather let sleeping dogs lie than dwell on the mishaps of the past. Your dashing good looks may one day lead to a modelling career, if only you can tame the unfortunate clumsiness that sometimes causes you to go flailing from the catwalk.

So what do you think??  Am I a Golden Retriever??  Is Miss K a Labrador Retriever??  I think they’re pretty well accurate, but I don’t know!!  HAHA

You tell us, What Dog Breed Are You?

Merry Christmas!!

The presents are open, the phone calls have been made, and it’s just about time to put the ham in the oven.  But first, I’d like to wish all my family, friends, and readers a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!  Some of you have truly become part of my life and others, are unknown to me, but you all mean something special to me.  For those that are unknown because you’ve left a comment with no way to reply or because you’re a number on my reader count, I appreciate you for taking the time to read my blog and download my printables.  I hope that I can continue to provide things that you need and can use through the New Year.  For those that I do know, are family or friends, you know that you mean everything to me.  Sometimes this is the only time of the year that we’re in contact, but it never gets forgotten.  Holidays are so precious and this year, probably more than any other, we’ve really enjoyed ours as a family.  We had a “small” Christmas this year and it was just the 3 of us 5 of us (can’t leave the dogs out).  We all got exactly what we wanted without all the frills.  And although my family and our friends are the greatest, it was nice to just enjoy the holidays just as our little family this year.  We’ve spent so much time apart that this year we did something different and we were blessed in so many ways.  I do hope that you and yours have been able to experience what we have this year and especially, this holiday season.  May you all have a very MERRY and BLESSED CHRISTMAS!!  And never forget….

Merry CHRISTmas,

The Natvity Around the House: Day 4 and Day 5

I missed a day, so I’m doing “day4” and “day 5” of the Nativity Parade.  Since these are my final 2 for this year, I’ve picked out a couple of my favorites.  I won’t be doing The Nativity Around the House tomorrow since it’ll be Christmas day.  I hope that you enjoy my nativities!!

First up is a special nativity.  I’ve had this one for 21 years!!  We got it our first year in Germany.  This is just a cute little set that I’m totally attached to.  Yes, there’s only 1 wiseman….and maybe that’s part of what makes it unique.  So here is the little German nativity….

Photobucket

The next nativity is a definite favorite of mine.  I’m one of those that fully believes that Jesus IS the Reason for the Season.  However, I also believe in Santa.  I don’t think that there is anything wrong with that jolly man with the white beard and red suit.  There’s nothing wrong with receiving presents from a man that rides in a sleigh pulled by reindeer.  That just one of the fun parts of Christmas.  After all, Jesus received 3 very special gifts on the day he was born….and Santa delivers 3 very special gifts to our house.  Therefore, this nativity is the perfect balance of both!!  This is called “Kneeling Santa” and it is Santa kneeling next to the baby Jesus in the manger with a few of the stable animals.  So here is my “Kneeling Santa” and the most beautiful balance of both Christmas worlds….

Kneeling Santa

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my final 2 nativities for this year.  I have so many more that I could have done, but that just leaves next year for me to do this again!!  If you’ve enjoyed my nativities, just like reading my blog, or even downloading my printables, I hope that you’d consider voting for my blog by clicking the button in the right hand column under “Rate My Blog”.

Getting My Sharing Caught Up

I have so many printables to get out to all of you. I do hope that there’s still time to use them, but then again, there’s always next year!!  Anyway, I’m going to take a break away from displaying my nativities to share some printables to use at home or school to keep the kids busy!!

I’m going to start with Letter of the Week.  The letter Ii still needed some Play-Doh mats.  Those are now done and can be found in the Letter Ii folder.  I don’t remember if I ever posted it, but the Play-Doh mats for the letter Hh are also done and can be found in the Letter Hh folder.  I think that about covers all of those.  Letter of the Week will resume after the holidays!!

First up are some very pretty Christmas strip puzzles.  These are for counting by 1, 2, and 5.  There are also 2 versions of each puzzle…..low ink and normal.  You can find these (very pretty) strip puzzles that nobody has seen here.

Next up is a set of snowflake clothespin cards.  The skills these cards work on are numbers, colors, and shapes.  Here, you will find this set of 3 clothespin cards and all the snowflakes that come with them!!

For those of you that are fans of Caillou, or have kids that are, this is the folder for you!!  It includes Caillou strip puzzles, and a set of 4-piece jigsaw puzzles.  Also, you’ll find a set of memory cards that include the storage box.

I know Hanukkah has already passed, but I did make a couple things for it.  There are some 2-part opposite cards using the Star of David for matching opposites.  There’s also some 3-part puzzle cards featuring a menorah for shapes in everyday life.  You can find both of them here.

If your kids still haven’t written their letter to Santa, you can find a Dear Santa letter that is ready to go!!  All the kids need to do is fill in a couple details, along with a space for parents, siblings, or pets….and get it in the mail!!

As part of the Christmas Around the World theme that I did with my group, I made a set of label cards for “Holiday Greetings Around the World”.  These cards serve 2 purposes…..label the character on the card with the flag and country/language and also label the character with their holiday greeting in their language.  I really had fun making these cards.  What’s your holiday greeting??

Finally up for offering today are some 12 Days of Christmas printables.  Well, actually I already shared them, but I do have a new one to add.  The new one is “The 12 Ordinal Days of Christmas” where the days are read and put in ordinal order.  You can find this new game and the previous ones with one simple click here.

I know I have more, but I either don’t have it uploaded or have forgotten what it is!!  HAHA  Well, it is a busy time of the year and I’m just trying to keep my head above the commotion and the waves right now!!

If you use my printables or just enjoy my blog, please consider voting for me by clicking at lease one of the buttons below…..thanks!!

The Nativity Around the House: Day 3

I took yesterday off from displaying my nativities, but I’m back today!!  The nativity that I’m sharing today is….

Photobucket

This particular one has deep rich colors.  I don’t always think that photos do justice to certain items!!  HAHA  Anyway, it has a bronzing effect….or maybe it’s more goldish.  I’m not sure why it looks so white-washed, other than maybe the flash.  The part that caught my attention most about this nativity is that a tea light candle fits in the back and sets the whole thing gently aglow.  Here it is in candlelight….

Photobucket

So that’s my nativity of the day, so to speak.  I’m sure I’ll be back tomorrow with another one from my collection.  I told you when I started this that I had enough to do one a day….each day….until Christmas!!  That’s no joke, and I could do it again next year and NOT repeat!!  HAHA

The Nativity Around the House: Day 2

I have something fun to share with you today, along with nativity that I’m displaying for 2010 Nativity Parade.  This is a fun “modern” nativity that was shared with me today and I just had to re-share it.  It brought an instant smile to my face…..and as you all know, I’m not fond of cell phones!!  Sit back and watch the “modern” nativity…..

Now for one of my nativities that’s on display in my house this year.  This is actually one that is newly acquired…..today!!  My 3 goddaughters came over today and I printed this out and they each colored and decorated their own.  I didn’t leave my daughter out though (of course), she was right by their side!!

So, my nativity for today is…..

Nativity Craft by Miss K

Miss K and I really worked on this together today.  It’s mainly her project though, and I think she did a great job.  Her medium of choice today was colored pencils.  I added glitter to the 3 gifts, Mary, baby Jesus, the stars, and backdrop.  The backdrop didn’t quite turn out the way I expected, but I think it’s because the glue was too old and thick.  Once I changed to a new bottle for the rest of the project, it worked fine.

My 3 goddaughters are here today and also did this nativity craft project.  I had all 3 of them at the table coloring, cutting and gluing!!  It took most of the day, but they had a good time and their nativities turned out great.  You can see their slide show here.  They’ll be taking them home when they leave and hopefully mom will treasure them as much as I did my time with them and having some crafty holiday fun!!

As for the nativity craft itself, I got it off a web site.  You can also get a “Make Your Own Nativity Scene” to do with your kids or holiday guests.  I highly recommend printing it on cardstock.  I did kiddo’s on cardstock and the 3 girls on paper.  Theirs turned out well, but K’s is much firmer and balanced.  Also, before you glue the pieces together, pre-form the pieces.  Then, use a paint brush to brush the glue on and get it tacky, after which you can glue them together.

One final picture of our finished nativity scene….

The Nativity Around the House: Day 1

I saw this great post called 2010 Nativity Parade at Crap I’ve Made and instantly knew that was the “parade” for me!!  The nativity is probably my favorite part of Christmas.  I don’t know if it was my mom or dad that gave me the love that I have for the nativity, but I love to use it to decorate my house.  I decided to participate in this “parade” and show off a portion, of my nativity collections.  YES, I did say a portion!!  From now until Christmas Eve, I’ll post a nativity that’s around my house each day.  I’ll still have enough left to do this again next year!!  HAHA  Some of the nativities that I have are kept up year round.

So without further ado, today’s featured nativity…..

We call this our “nativity tree”.  Miss K and I made this on Lean Green’s last tour to Iraq.  I don’t like to go up in the attic where the Christmas stuff is stored, but I do when forced.  This particular time, I couldn’t find all our decorations, tree, and so on.  I suggested to my little girl that we make our own and make it special.  She was all for it!!  I got the pre-lit tree at Lowe’s and the clay pot at Hobby Lobby.  I probably got all the decorations there too.  The nativity scene are all miniture (tree) decorations.  K helped me to paint the pot.  We let it sit over night to dry good.  I then hot glued the garland around the rim and K decided where the berries and bells went.  Hindsight is 20/20, but looking at it now, I probably should have painted the rim a sandy tan color and the night sky is midnight blue and filled with glitter stars.  The top, which is actually the base, is crowned with the North Star and an angel.  The nativity scene goes all the way around the pot.  It was Miss K’s idea to split up the wisemen because she thought it was too “cluttered”!!  After that sat over night to dry and harden, I inserted a huge piece of craft foam inside the pot and hot glued it.  I then inserted the tree (stem) into the hole at the top (which should be the base of the pot).  Oh, and more hot glue all over the “stem” as I inserted it.  It’s held up all these years and is no worse for the wear!!

You can see a slideshow of the view all the way around the pot.

So there’s our “nativity tree”.  I don’t put it up every year.  I thought it was important to go up this year because K informed me that the year we made this was her “best Christmas ever”.  That makes me so happy and proud, because I did it on my own and she’s never forgotten it.  It was a special year, despite hubby being gone.  We made the best of the situation, and had the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!

Hello!!

Hello

Hello all of you out there reading this!!  It’s been so long since I just blogged, that I thought I’d get you caught up on a few things going on around our household.

With the holidays fast approaching, things have been pretty hectic, just like they are with most people.  Last week, I had something to do literally every day.  There was appointments and hubby’s work Christmas party.  It was pretty fun, but cold as heck in the building.  We played a fun game at the party where you toss a wrapped box around the table and the person holding the box when the music stops has to sit down.  We played for 2 bottles of local wine and the centerpiece.  I got the centerpiece!!

Over the weekend, my 3 goddaughters were here.  Of course, I love my time with them, but it’s crazy!!  They never stop moving and they’re always hungry.  They really are good girls though and they love it here as much as we love them.  I did find out though that mom requested that I watch them this coming Saturday so that she can do her Christmas shopping.  I balked, but knew that she really needed me.  I’m having a hard enough time shopping for one, much less the 3 she’s got to shop for!!

Lean Green and Miss K both had the sniffles for 2 days last week.  I told them they better not get me sick.  Then the goddaughters show up and have the sniffles and coughs.  The next day in the afternoon, Sunday, I felt like I got hit by a mach truck.  My nose was running and I was sneezing like crazy.  Monday I took it easy and napped.  Today, I’m already feeling much better, thank goodness!!  On the downside, now kiddo is getting sick.  She has a sore throat and has the chills.  I’m going to give her the day off tomorrow to rest and try to beat this thing so that she doesn’t get bad sick.

Being so busy and then getting sick as slowed my creative process.  I don’t think I’ll fully get back in the swing until after the New Year.  After all, it’s mid-year, so I’ll have to get the rest of the lesson plan ready for the homeschool year.  I have to take a good look at her grades and make sure K is where she needs to be.  I’m sure she is, but I’m not happy unless I check and re-check!!

No, I’m not done shopping this year.  No, I don’t have my Christmas cards wrote out.  That’s just been the way it IS since around Thanksgiving.  We’re planning a small Christmas and well, not being ready is one way to do it!!  I haven’t even receive any Christmas cards though, so they just might be saving me some money.  HAHA

Alright, that’s the way things stand around here!!  We had our Christmas party in religion class tonight.  The kids were great and there was plenty of food.  One of the parents made goody bags, which were a huge hit.  The Christmas gifts that we got for the kids were an even bigger success!!  They just loved them and were so excited.  It’s amazing how happy you can make a kid by spending around $1.50-$2.00 on them!!

You all take care and I’ll post some more printables as I have time to create!!  If you don’t mind and if you have a little time on your hands, I’d appreciate it if you’d vote/rate my blog.  You can find the buttons over in the right hand column under “rate my blog”.  Thanks!!

12 Days of Christmas

Typically, people think that the “12 Days of Christmas” are the 12 days before Christmas.  In actuality, they’re the 12 days after.  They go from Christmas day until 5 January, which is known as Christmastide.  The following day, 6 January, is the Feast of Epiphany.

That said, I held a little “challenge” in my group today for the “12 Days of Christmas”.  I had my 3 goddaughters here today, so I wasn’t able to get as creative as I wanted.  I did however, create a couple items and I want to share them with all my readers as well!!

First is the 12 Days of Christmas Memory, which you’ll have to print 2 sets of the cards.  These are pretty graphics with bright colors!!  Next is Sequence and Memory the 12 Days of Christmas, which serves as 2 games in 1.  First, the player can finish the lyrics of the song by matching the 12 Days cards to sequence the song.  The player can also play the 12 Days cards as memory if 2 sets of cards are printed out.  As someone said, “these graphics made me smile”!!

Finally, there’s a book that I made last year, Say and Write the 12 Days of Christmas.  This is a half-page book that will work on early writing skills with numbers and words to the song.

As an added bonus, I have something else to offer that I just uploaded today.  This is a little off-season, as it’s for fall/autumn, but it’ll keep the kids entertained.  You can download my Autumn Harvest Kids Fun Pack to give them something to do for hours!!  The fun pack includes autumn/fall versions of tic-tac-toe, checkers, and bingo.

If you enjoy my printables and use them, please be sure to vote for me by clicking the buttons below….thanks!!
