A Rainbow of Colors

Last week I created a new game that I’m very proud of.  Of course, I like all my games, but I worked especially hard on this game.  Although all kids can play it, I geared this one toward or special little ones.

The color token pieces are a size that’s easier for little one and special ones to handle.  There’s also no background to any of the color objects on the tokens.  This will prevent any distractions that might normally be there.  The colors are bright and distinct to help with proper placement.

This game is called “A Rainbow of Colors” and is a great color identification game.  It includes game board/mats for each color, 6 color tokens for each color, cover and directions together, and an answer key.

The way I recommend using this game is to print out and place each of the large game boards inside a file folder.  Glue the cover/directions to the front and the answer key to the back of the file folder, then laminate (with clear contact paper or other method).  Cut out each of the smaller mats and laminate, as well as doing the same for color item tokens.  Store the smaller mats in the file folder and place all the color item tokens in an envelope and store inside the file folder as well.

I hope that you will print out this game for your little or special ones to enjoy and let them play to learn.  Let me know what you think about this game!!

In the Crockpot: Stuffed Peppers

It seems like forever since I’ve posted a crockpot recipe.  Let me tell you, it was well worth the wait!!  Even if I must say it myself!!  Today before church, I put stuffed peppers in the crockpor and they were delicious.  I did all the prep work last night so that I wouldn’t have so much to do today and it all paid off.  I’ve never been a huge fan of stuffed peppers, but these are enough to make the biggest critic change their mind!!

I often think that my photos don’t do my food justice, but I share anyway, just to give you and idea of how it turns out.  This meal is no exception!!  It tasted way better than it looks in the picture.  With that said, here it is….

Stuffed Peppers

Stuffed Peppers

1 lb. ground beef            1 medium onion, diced            1 cup rice

4 large peppers (red, orange, or yellow) tops removed, devained, and cleaned

1 cup shredded cheddar & monterey jack, plus extra

2 cups spaghetti sauce, plus extra            salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parsely to taste

In a fry pan, add ground beef, rice and seasonings.  Cook until ground beef is browned.  (Mixture may be refrigerated at this point and used at a later time.)  Add shredded cheese to mixture.  Fill each pepper evenly with mixture.  Pour 1 cup of spaghetti sauce in crockpot.  Place stuffed peppers in sauce.  Cook on low for 4-6 hours.  If spaghetti sauce gets thick or cooks away, add another cup of sauce about half way through.  Half hour before serving, pour a tablespoon of spaghetti sauce on each pepper and sprinkle with a tablespoon of cheese.

Shared Sentiments

I have nothing more to say than to watch this clip from a town hall meeting.  This Marine echoes my thoughts pretty much on point.

I’m tired of being called a terrorist or one of the many other dirty names that the Democrats have for us Americans that stand up for what we believe in.  I’m sick that we served this country for 20 years and they don’t care about us….or anyone else.  Nancy Pelosi, Obama,  and the other Dems like her (including some Republicans) are the Nazi’s and socialists….not the good loyal Americans who want to do what’s best for them and their families.  We’re NOT the ones getting rich and writing personal favors and perks into bills….THEY ARE!!  Call me what you will, but until you put me in the ground, I WILL speak for what I believe in.  It’s time we remind Washington D.C. that they work for US!!

Dog Nails

I had the most horrid experience tonight.  I was clipping my baby dog’s toe nails and she jerked.  It happened at the exact same time I clipped.  It took too much off and she began to bleed and bleed.  I wrapped it in gauze, but it didn’t take long for her to get it off.  I know how dangerous it is for a dog’s nails to be too short.  So, I headed to the internet for answers.

I found out that making a paste of flour and water, then applying it to the nail will stop the bleeding.  I put the paste on there and watched it for a bit and no blood seeped through the paste.  I decided that it was time to wrap it again, so hubby held her while I put gauze back on the bottom of  her foot and taped it up.  She seemed very content and at peace.  Some of the other recommended kitchen items were baking soda or corn starch.

I wasn’t going to stop until I found the answer to stop the bleeding.  It scared the crap out of me!!  My poor baby has already been through so much.  At one time, she wouldn’t even let me touch her nails.  They’d get so long, she could barely walk.  I’d have the vet cut them, but she’d cry and yelp so loud, you’d think someone was killing her.  Then all of a sudden one day, it was like she realized how good short nails felt, so she let me cut them without too much pulling away or crying.  She’d be full of spit and vinegar when I was done and run around like she felt like a new puppy!!  This time, she lost patience and pulled away.  It hurt me as much as it hurt her.  My worst fear is that she won’t trust me again and I might have to start from scratch trying to clip her nails.

No matter what, the most important thing to me is that it appears that the bleeding has stopped.  The only thing I couldn’t find was how long to leave it wrapped.  I think if she leaves it alone, I’ll leave it on at least a couple days and give it a chance to heal.  Even after that, I’m going to put antibacterial ointment on it after she goes outside.  Thankfully, she’s doesn’t like it outside unless it’s totally necessary!!

So my readers, if you should ever have a dog toe nail clipping accident, remember the flour and water paste!!

Christian Halloween

I was asked by a member of my group to make something for Halloween with a Christian theme.  It’s one of those holidays that’s so contriversial at times.  It’s one that’s definitely not associated with being Christian.  Does that mean that Christians shouldn’t celebrate it??  I don’t know, but that’s not for a discussion here!!

This member wanted something using “The LORD shall be your light forver.”  That’s from Isaiah 60:19.  I loved the idea of creating something for this.  After all, I’d love to be able to hand something out to my kids for Halloween.  This same member wants me to do a lesson plan for her on this topic.  I’ve taken notes, but haven’t gotten started on it.  It’ll be coming soon!!  Ah, but I wonder off topic.

I made some sucker covers, a 3-pc. leave puzzle, bookmark and envelope, and a door hanger that you can download that has this verse on each item.  I hope that you’ll use them and enjoy them.  What better way to “celebrate” Halloween than to spread the Christian word!!

Avatar

This is supposed to be the next “great” movie.  It’s directed by James Cameron who did “Titanic”.  This new movie is a combination of animation and live action.  A futuristic 3D sci-fi adventure.  Can’t go wrong, right??  Well, I don’t think it looks bad.  Rather interesting, in fact.   See for yourself with the Avatar trailer.  What do you think??

Oh Where Have I Been?

I absolutely can’t believe that it’s been a week since I last did a post.  I could’ve swore that I’d done at least one in between, but then again, I am lost for time.  So, what’s been going on during that long absence?  Well, let’s see!!

Dad was here for a week to rebuild the engine on hubby’s car.  I think everyone knows about that.  He left and took kiddo with him for her last summer visit.  They’ve returned and the work on the engine continued.  It all went back together so well, but when we went to start, there was no crank.  After replacing a few more parts like a starter and plug wires, we can now get a partial crank out of it, but still no start.  It seems that the man is going to have to take the head back off and do some more work….mainly adding more lube.  (Keep you mind OUT of the gutter on that one!!)  My only hope and prayer is that he can do it all….safely….in one weekend.

The reason for the weekend time limit is that I’ve been without a car for 3 weeks now.  I feel like a caged animal.  That’s not all though.  Kiddo and I had several appointments last week and we have more this coming week.  There’s volunteering at the Thrift Store, eye exams, and Red Cross classes.  Not to mention, I was supposed to have blood work done, but can’t go in for a fasting blood test when I have no car.  I’ve had a couple chances to take the man into work and keep the car, but it just hasn’t been worth the hassle.  Our very good friends that sit behind us in church took me to my diabetic eye exam and Dad took kiddo to her first Red Cross class.  We were blessed with help with that and we so appreciate it.

I don’t know the results of my diabetic eye exam.  I got 2 kinds of drops this year and the last one burned.  It took quite awhile for my vision to come back too.  My results will be mailed to me in a couple weeks.  Next week is our regular yearly eye exams.  And those are soon to be every other year thanks to crappy retired military insurance.  We also had dentist appointments and all is well.  The only issue is that the dentist wants Miss K to have a laser surgery to remove this muscle from the top of the inside of her lip to her gum.  It’s causing her teeth to separate and even after braces, it’ll undo what the braces were supposed to fix.  I told him we’ll do it next time.  That is, until I found out that it’s over $250 and our dental insurance won’t pay a single dime of it.  Ain’t life grand!?!?  You pay all that money for insurance policies, then they don’t pay anything.  GGRRRR

Religious Education registration is this weekend.  We’ve already had one meeting to get all our paperwork in order.  We’ll have a week off, then another meeting to get our student numbers and information.  The new religion classes begin after Labor Day.  Time to head back to the classes!!  I’m looking forward to this year so much since hubby is going to be my assistant.  I think we’re going to do great things in that class now that someone will truly be helping.  I think it’ll be a great year, but probably a much smaller class than last year.  After all, I did have 15 at one point, but 14 through the year.  Kind of hard to beat that!!

I think that’s a pretty good catch-up of what’s been going on around here lately.  I really had no intention of missing a whole week.  I noticed that during that time, I lost several off my reader/feed.  I guess they didn’t want to stick around and see what I’ve gotten into lately!!  HAHA  I’m glad many of you did stick around and I’m hoping that I’ll be getting back to blogging again on a regular basis.

With that, I’m off….

Boring

I know, this is probably the most boring blog that you read right now.  There’s just not much going on.  I’m taking care of some final preparations for homeschool to begin.  Hubby is busy working on the car every night.  While he’s in the garage, I try to create games or watch Summer Under the Stars on TCM.

I really am here though and I’ve checked on comments and such.  My name-sake in Canada has been checking in….I just haven’t checked on her new/moved photo blog though.  I talked to kiddo in the computer tonight and got to see her on web cam.  She’ll be home on Friday!!  WooHoo  I’ve cleaned out her drawers and closet.  All ready for clean laundry to put away when she gets home.  Nope, that’s not my chore any more!!

Next week….actually next 2 weeks….are full of appointments and activities.  Miss K starts Red Cross classes on Tuesday and I’ll be setting up CPR classes for the local homeschool group.  There’s always volunteering at the Thrift Store and religious education is about to start.  We have meetings and registration coming up for that.

So there you have it.  My life in a nutshell right now!!  I’ll be getting caught up on everyone’s blogs and commenting as usual soon.  I appreciate everyone that’s still reading me through this down time.  Hang on because life’s about to be in FULL swing again!!

Oh what a ride….

Themes Continued

As promised awhile back, I’ve done more theme items.  Not many because I’ve had very limited access to my computer.  However, I do like what I’ve added to the collection.  Ah, but which collection??  HHMMMM

Well, that would be the beach/ocean theme.  I’ve added some note stationery, a door hanger, and a bookmark with enveolope.  I told you it wasn’t much, but at least it’s something!!  I honestly do plan on doing more, but it’ll depend on my computer time and how many games that I create.  I haven’t gotten to those lately either!!

Hope you enjoy the new items!!

Dollar Deals

I’ve recently found some dollar deals and I want to share them with you.  Especially those of you that teach a religious education class.  Some of them will benefit other teachers and homeschool parents as well.  I find that now more than ever, it’s important to find a good deal and stretch the dollar as far as it’ll go.  If we can find a good deal and still give the kids a great education, I say “GO FOR IT”!!

By now, all my readers know that I make file folder games.  Sometimes I don’t include the die/dice or spinner.  Upon shopping at our local Dollar Tree, I found a pack of 4 educational spinners for just $1.  They are numbered from 1 to 8.  They have the colors of red, yellow, green, orange, blue, and purple.  So, they could be used for a variety of ways and with 4 to a pack at that price, you could be enough to put with each game that you don’t have a spinner for!!

I’ve also purchased some easy reading books.  I bought a series called “First Steps” and it includes faith, prayer, and the Bible.  I’m not sure if there’s more titles, but this is what my store had in stock.  There’s also a nice series of 4 parable books.  They’re from The Clever Factory, Inc. and include The Lost Son, The Parable of the Talents, The Good Samaritan, and The Sower and the Seeds.

They had rewards stickers with a Christian theme.  They’re marked “church supplies reward stickers”.  396 of them for $1!!  Along with that was a coloring and activity book called “More Bible Games and Puzzles” from Upper Room Kids.

My final find was a series of 4 cd story books.  They’re a book with the cd inserted in the book, so you could read aloud or play the cd and show the pictures in the book.  They have a nice handle too!!  The titles include The Birth of Jesus, Jonah & the Whale, Story of Moses, and Noah’s Ark.  Again, all for only $1 each!!

They had tons of other teacher supplies, but I didn’t need any of it.  I’m still pretty well stocked.  These all came from Dollar Tree, but other dollar stores have similar items.  You can also find great deals at Family Dollar, Dollar General, and other such stores.  I’d highly recommend before heading to the expensive book store or office supply store, to stop by your local dollar store to see what they have!!  You just might be surprised!!

Still Here

Just checking in and letting you all know that I’m here.  I’ve done a couple blog posts this week, but didn’t post them.  I always like check them and some weren’t quite complete.  I just haven’t had as much time online with Dad here.  The engine rebuild is going well and they’re pretty happy with the job.  The only issue has been that the head isn’t back from the shop and Dad has to leave this weekend.  That means that he’ll have to bring kiddo back and stay to finish that up.  All’s well though and I wanted to touch base.  Hope all’s well in my reader’s world.  Take care!!

I’m out….
