These are some startling statistics!!
With statistics like that, it’ll make your head spin. The Man has just 2 days left in the Army….a job he had for 20 years!! He’s only had 4 jobs in his life and is now on his 5th. Of those, 2 of those he working at the same time prior to joining the Army. When I think about that, it’s amazing how many jobs a person goes through. Some of the other statistics are the exact reason that I homeschool. We get to use a computer and branch off into the real world. We’re not stuck in a box with no windows. When we had Miss K in school, they were as worried about teaching her Spanish at a young age as they were about teaching her about technology. One she doesn’t need and one she does need. Our kids….our grandkids are in for a wild ride that they’ll call life.
Today marks the first day of Lent. It’s a day of reflection. It’s a day of remembering what Jesus sacrificed for us. It’s a time to think about our sins. It’s the time we prepare and celebrate Easter. The 40 days of Lent.
It’s especially a time of abstinance. It’s a time when we fast. There’s no meat on Fridays. That’s a particularly hard one for me since I don’t eat fish or seafood. Salads just aren’t enough for this woman!! Now, the Catholic church has tried to make it easier so that more people examine their conscience and follow the fasting rules. We have 2 established days….Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Each of us in our family has chosen something to give up for Lent. I know if I follow through with mine, it’ll make me a better person. At least I hope so!! Hubby has chosen something that’s dear to him. Something he NEEDS/WANTS every day. Kiddo is giving up the final stages of childhood habit that she has. For all of us, it’s something that’s meaningful to us. If we can follow through with it, we’ll be better off. Even if we slip, we’ll know that we tried. That’s just it….now days, not enough people try. You’d be surprised what you can sacrifice. And this is all in the name of Jesus.
So will I succeed?? Maybe….maybe not. I will give it my best. Even if I slip, it won’t be a failure. It’s only a failure if I don’t try.
What are you doing for Lent as a either giving something up or to make yourself better??
No, I’m sorry but this isn’t about canning. I know many of you like to put up your fruits and vegetables. In away this post is about that, but only in a unique way.
I’ve made 2 new file folder games and I used preserving/canning in a special way. I put a Christian twist on it to help kids learn what some of the delicious foods are that God has provided for us. One ffg is about fruits and the other is about vegetables. Both games, the players will match a lid to the jar with the fruit or vegetable. Soon after playing, children will know many of the fruits and vegetables that God provides for us and maybe some of you can even teach them about canning or preserving!!
Preserve the Fruits of God’s Labor
Preserve What God Provides
I hope that some of my readers will use these games and that the kids learn while having fun playing them!!

I was searching for something online. I believe it was “Beatitudes for children”. I was looking for an easy way to word them without needing to take up so much space with typing them out and wanted the kids to be able to understand them. I came across the “Beatitudes for Children’s Workers”. I loved it and just had to share it because I know so many of you volunteer with kids, teach a religion class or homeschool. Enjoy!!
The Beatitudes for Children’s Workers
Blessed are they who love children with all their heart, for they shall be rewarded with big smiles.
Blessed are they who have planned and prepared, for the children will be interested and pay attention.
Blessed are they who arrive early, for they shall be able to welcome the children at the door with a loving smile.
Blessed are those who get to know their children, their children’s parents, and their children’s home situation; for they shall be able to minister more effectively.
Blessed are those who respect each child’s personality and seek to meet that child on his/her own level of understanding, for young lives shall reap the benefits from these efforts in years to come.
Blessed are they who bear witness to children week after week, for they shall see boys and girls grow in knowledge and love of God.
Blessed are they who spend time alone with God each day, for they shall grow spiritually and the Lord will use them as His instruments.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for the Lord will honour your commitment and give you pleasure and satisfaction in your ministry to children.
14 Days of Homeschooling
On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Can you homeschool legally?”
On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the fourth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the fifth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the sixth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “How long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the seventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the eighth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the ninth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “They’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the tenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “What about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the eleventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “I could never do that, what about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “Can they go to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they’ll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they’re missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?”
On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully replied: “They can go to college, yes you can do this, they can have graduation, we don’t like the prom, we do it `cuz we like it, they are missing nothing, we’ll homeschool forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, we give them P.E., and we give them tests, they are socialized, AND WE HOMESCHOOL LEGALLY!
On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, “How can I get started, why didn’t you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE’RE STRANGE?, I think we can do this, if you will help us, we will join a sports team and we’ll homeschool legally.”
**I received this poem/song/story in an e-mail and just had to share!!**
I’ve had so many things in mind to write about, but as soon as I think about it I get busy and forget. I can’t imagine how bad I’ll be when I’m old!! I’m going to have to have strings tied to my fingers and carry around a notebook to write things down in!! HAHA
First of all, I’m done reformatting my groups. There’s now one main group, or “mother group” as I like to call it. That’s the only group that receives e-mails. We share messages and post what our newest games are and so on. The other 5 groups are now only used for file storage. This way, there’s not a message going to all of those groups about new activity and repeated messages for those that are in more than 1 group. It also means less work and maintenance. You can only join them if you’re a member of the main group. It probably sounds confusting, but trust me it’s much simpler. If you’re interested in Christian file folder games, please join!!

I finally got my OK drivers license this week. I had to sit in the highway patrol office for 4 hours waiting. 4 hours!! They don’t have a line just for renewals. You have to wait no matter what you’re there for. The take down all your info, fingerprint you, take your photo and clear your driving record. The last part because we had out-of-state licenses. Then you have to go over to the tag agency to get your actual drivers license. That means waiting too. Then almost everything you initially did at the highway patrol is done at the tag agency again. My photo is horrid!! After that, it takes a whopping 3 minutes to get the actual license in hand. I can say without a doubt that it’s going to take me quite a long time to remember this crazy license number. On top of that, I was looking it over and it doesn’t expire on my birthday. Nope!! It expires 4 years from NOW!! What kind of craziness is that?? I thought all states had the license expire on your birthday. Mine always has since I was 16 years old. Then I heard people complaining that their was expired and they didn’t know it. It seems the state has quit sending out reminders. Ah ok, then it’s time to change to birthday expiration’s!!
We changed our health insurence to retired military today. Time for us to join all of you that have been paying too much for insurence all these years. I can’t complain about the cost for the retired, but I know that it’s set to be reviewed by Congress this year for a possible increase. It’s a fairly large increase too. HHMMMM I wonder if they’re rates are going up. Ah no, that’s right, they don’t pay for insurence. <rolling eyes>
We priced tires today. I didn’t realize you had to take out a loan for tires now days. That is, good tires. I guess that’s one of the items that we’ll be using our tax refund for. YAY!! <sarcasm>
I guess that there’s not much else to tell you. That’s the way our life is rolling right now. Homeschool is going great and we’re all adjusting to “civilian life”!!
So what’s up with all of you??
I’ve been making alot of games lately. Whenever I’m not teaching kiddo, cleaning or spending time with The Man, I’m creating games. I seem to be on a roll right now. I don’t know if they’re any good or not. I don’t even know if people are using them. It doesn’t matter because I’m making them!!
My latest game is about nutrition. Miss K and I are both trying to eat healthier and, if possible, lose a few pounds in the process. So far, she’s lost 5 lbs and unfortunately I remain the same. Since I teach her nutrition as part of Life Skills and also Health, I decided to make a fun game for review or just to have fun with. I also added a Christian slant to it so that my groups could use the file folder game (ffg) as well. The ffg is called “Body by God, Nutrition by Me”.
Below are the links to each page of the ffg. I created it in DOC format, but converted it to JPG for easier printing and access for others. There are some blank cards to add Christian questions or your own questions about nutrition. You WILL need EVERY page to have the complete game!!
I hope you enjoy!!
(Each image is a seperate page – you will need all of them – print one of each page except the pyramid tokens, which you will need to print as many as needed for the number of players – the food pyramid charts are just for reference)
Yes, today is President’s Day. Hubby was off of work today and we just enjoyed our time together. Imagine, he actually had a holiday!! It was new for all of us.
Kiddo and I started the day off with a dentist appointment. Boy do we love the feel of freshly cleaned teeth. You just can’t get that at home. Then we enjoyed time with The Man and got lots of paperwork sorted through. We never found the particular form that we were looking for, but it was still productive.
The kids around here had school because they’re making up for an inclament weather day we had with all that sleet and ice. It was just a plain day off for us!!
Oh, and just for all who are uncertain what today really is, it’s to celebrate the birthday’s of George Washington and Abe Lincoln. They used to be seperate days, but they were so close together, that it was easier to combine them in one day. Actually, Washington’s birthday has been celebrated since he was elected president, which is long before Lincoln was born. In 1968 and the 1980’s it was brought up to make changes, but it’s still widely known as Washington’s Birthday. It should also be known that “President’s Day” does not stand for all presidents, espceially our current one. It is for 2 that celebrate their birthday in February….Washington and Lincoln.
Today was the day that the racing season begins. NASCAR’s big race, the Daytona 500 was today. This is a day that this family looks forward to every year. We have a need for speed!!
It was an awesome race. There was a threat of rain from early on in the race. Unfortunately, the rain did come and the race ended before the checkered flag. Matt Kenseth was the winner, if you call it winning without being on the track. He was on the lead when the red flag came out to stop the race due to the weather.
The 3 Hendrick cars were something to deal with. I should say 4 because Mark Martin was up there too. Even Tony Stewart with his new team was in the front of the pack. At one point, Jr was pushed below the yellow line in an effort to block his position by Brian Vickers. Jr came strait back up on the track and a wreck followed. Vickers of course, blamed Jr for this. It seemed if anything went wrong during this race, it was Jr’s fault. He missed his pit….his fault. He had the edge of his wheel on the line in the pits….they held him for a whole lap. The wreck….blamed on Jr with no mention of Vickers pushing him below the line. Good thing that me and my man are tough!! HAHA
All I can say is, this is going to be an awesome racing season. Next up….California!!
