We went as a family today to get our flu shots. The way the hospital on post does it is that they set up certain days and times for dependents, retirees and so on to get shots. They even offer a couple of Saturday sessions. Since I’m high risk (diabetes), I didn’t want to wait any longer to get my flu shot. I printed out the form off the hospital’s web site and had it filled in so I was ready when we got there. Everyone who didn’t have it done, had to step aside to complete it. We only had a 15 minute wait and it was over with. Well, the shot was over with, that is. We had to wait 15 minutes to make sure that I wasn’t going to get sick or have a reaction. I guess they thought since I have diabetes that I’d pass out or something.
I do wonder each year about the location of the flu shot clinic. It’s down in the basement of the hospital. The room it’s in is very generic and white. It’s not remotely comfortable. Even more curious is the fact that you have to walk past the morgue on the way to the flu shot clinic. It’s down a hall that’s off to the right as you pass it. But you know it’s there. Rather creepy!!
I have felt queasy most of the day since getting the shot. The shot location hurts too!! This is the first time that I’ve ever had one hurt. It feels more like that horrible pneumonia shot. They used a huge needle. The nurse said it’s larger than the one they usually use, but this is what was ordered for this year. I have to keep moving my arm or it knots up. Miss K and Lean Green aren’t bothered by theirs at all. I’m going to be alright after I sleep, but it sure is annoying!!
Stay away flu season!!
