Thursday Thirteen: 13 Books We’ll Read…

Posted by on 16 October 2008

Today’s “Thursday Thirteen” is the 13 books that we’ll read in homeschool this year.  I don’t know if we’ll get to all of them or not.  We’ll certainly make a good attempt at it.  They’re each very different from each other and cover a wide range of topics.  The list may or may not change as the school year moves on.  However, our list of 13 homeschool reading books right now is:

1.  Little House on the Prairie

2.  Hoot

3.  Anne of Green Gables

4.  The Secret Garden

5.  Schooled

6.  Because of Winn-Dixie

7.  Little Women

8.  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

9.  The Secret Garden

10.  On my Honor

11.  The Penderwicks

12.  Old Yeller

13.  City of Ember

What books will your kids read this year??  Will your homeschool do any reading in class and if so, what books will you read??

Do you have 13 things to tell us about??  If so, join in on this week’s “Thursday Thirteen”!!

Ooh, I bought City of Ember at the scholastic warehouse for 50 cents and have been waiting for my daughter to be old enough to read it.

This year we are going to try to read:

    Betsy-Tacy and Tib
    Old Bones the Wonder Horse
    Brighty of Grand Canyon
    Treasures of the Snow
Prince Caspian (we read one Narnia book a year, or listen to the audiobook)

Another book I want to read is Holes, but I would have to review it first before unleashing it on the kids.

My kids like series books and lately RL Stine heads the list. That’s the books they choose. Shameful for me to say, but I can’t remember the books they’ve read in school lately. :0

I love the Anne of Green Gables books. I’ve got the whole set. Do you know I can’t get one of my kids interested enough to read them. **shaking my head back and forth**

I’m trying to get through Anne of Green Gables with Courtney. I bought the whole set for her last Christmas. I read it aloud to her when I get time.

She is reading Hatchet right now in her reading class. The next book they are reading is Summer of the Monkey’s. Her third grade teacher read it to them and she LOVED it.

I remember my sixth grade science teacher reading us old yeller. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Hope she enjoys all her reading. Courtney LOVES to read. I just bought her the set of Dear Dumb Diary books. LOL They are easy reads and she loves them.

deldobuss, that’s a great list of books too!! I’d love to get something from the Scholatic warehouse. I do order most of our books from the club though.

    Thanks for visiting!!

Debbie, RL Stine is liked by kiddo too. She reads just about everything she can. This is just the read-aloud books for this year. I don’t have the whole “Anne” series, but I’m sure I will after she reads this one!! LOL

Dawn, she very much enjoys reading. Sometimes lets herself become overwhelmed with other things and puts reading to the back. When she starts again, she tells me she misses it and loves it. I tell her there’s always time to read!!

We don’t have the whole “Anne” set, but might after she reads this one.

I’m glad you read with your daughter. Not enough parents take the time and it’s so critical!!
