I’m sure it’s hard to notice, but I’m not currently at home. I decided at the last minute that K and I were going to go see my parents. My mom is having a craft sale on the mountain and she loves it when Miss K helps. It’s the perfect weekend for us to get away. As I stated before, my in-laws decided to ride out Hurricane Ike.
So, here’s an update on what’s happened so far this weekend. My mom was in total shock when we arrived up on the mountain at the craft sale. She did a double take and her mouth was wide open. We pulled a good one on her. Dad knew we were coming. Unfortunately, they had to tear down early today because Ike is expected to make his way this direction and dump quite a bit of rain and the winds are supposed to pick up.
We watched the new roof being installed on the house and it looks great. It’s going to make such a huge difference for my parents. It was much needed.
The hummingbirds are out in full force. When they told me on the phone that they had 10 making home near them this year, I found that hard to believe. Ever since they lived there, they’ve always had 2. Those 2 return every year and have had babies. So I sat outside on the porch taking pictures of the hummingbirds.
Finally, Hurricane Ike hit the Texas Coast just after 2 am. People were actually crazy enough to stay despite a mandatory evacuation. It’s still unknown how much damage is done and how many are dead. My in-laws faired fairly well through it. I’ve called them a few times. I have more news than they do. Their power is out, but they didn’t have any flooding. Ike left quite a bit of destruction in his path and he’s headed in this direction with quite a bit of rain.
So. that’s the way things stand here. I’ll try to do another update tomorrow.
