Day 2 of the Schoolhouse went of without a hitch. We spent the longest on science because I was teaching her about the classification system. She’d never really learned it before. K truly amazes me though because having just barely touched on this stuff, when I asked her a question tonight, she was able to tell me the correct order from kingdom to species with only a small stumble, but not getting it wrong. We read another chapter of Little House on the Prairie today, but plan to read at least 2 chapters tomorrow. We also only did 1 lesson each of math and language arts, but we’re going to do 2 in math tomorrow. Even with me forgetting to give her a science worksheet and having to do it at the last minute, we were still done shortly after lunch. Playing together this afternoon and listening to her tell daddy what she did, she got it all too. I’m so excited!! This is great because we won’t feel so much pressure if we falter a little later when the material gets harder.
I plan on sharing some of my materials for this science lesson very soon. I was able to get some great stuff off the internet and filter it in with my workbooks.
It rained just about all day today. We needed the rain so bad. I’m already tired of it though. I do miss the sun. I can’t stand it when it’s this gloomy for this many days. On top of that, now when it heats back up, it’s going to be so humid. UGH
Tomorrow night is my first religious education meeting of this coming class year. Saturday and Sunday after masses is registration. We’ll have one more meeting next week to find out our student counts and last minute preparations. Then, we’re off and running with the new religious education year!! I’ve been told after mass every Sunday lately by different people and my kids that they miss me and can’t wait to get back.
Shawn Johnson has finally obtained the Olympic gold in gymnastics that she deserves. She had the best routine. She’s such a fireball and so much fun to watch. What’s so awesome is that since she’s just 16, if she can stay healthy and feel the way she does now, she can come back for 2012 in London. Too cool!! The U.S. walked away with with gold and silver to close out women’s gymnastics. A man named Anton Fokin from Uzbekistan got the bronze medal for men’s parallel bars. That’s the first medal his country has ever received in gymnastics. What an accomplishment. That country has a total of 4 right now in the overall standings. The U.S. men’s volleyball is moving onto the medal rounds, just like the female team. Currently, there’s alot of sailing, taekwondo and table tennis going on. Track and field is in full swing with the U.S. in good standings for some final events coming up tomorrow and later this week.
Oh, and let’s not forget BMX. BMX?? Come on, an added event to bring more young people into the Olympics. Sure it’s a sport, but it’s NOT an Olympic event. Maybe the young just need to find out what the real meaning of the Olympics are instead of trying to accomodate them and bring in events that really aren’t needed.
With that, tonights overal medal count has the U.S. and China very close in total numbers. Russia has pulled ahead of Great Britain, who is tied with Australia right now. Bahrain has received their first ever gold medal at the Olympics for the men’s 1500m. At the same time, Latvia collected a bronze for weightlifting, giving them their first medal of the 2008 Olympics. So without further ado, tonight’s medal count is:
