The Heart of a Champion

Posted by on 15 August 2008

I’m in shock and awe of the U.S. women gymnasts right now.  It was an amazing night.  Tonight wasn’t about Phelps, although he did qualify for finals tomorrow.  Tonight was about gymnastics.  What a night it was.  The U.S. women went in there and poured their heart and soul into what they love.  Another example of what the Olympics are all about.  In a night that saw some scores too high for the routine and others marked quite hard, the U.S. came out on top.  Shawn Johnson is just the cutest little thing, but she’s all heart….and gymnastics.  I love watching her.  She walked away with a silver tonight, but it wasn’t a walk in the park.  Nastia Liukin got gold with her elegance and grace.  Watching these two on the podium made even me choke up.  When it was all said and done, these 2 friends were right there to congratulate each other on an event well done.  They truly have the heart of a champion.

In other events, the U.S. women won a tough match against Belgium to move on.  They’re now headed on to the elimination round.  This was also Miss K’s chance to see her Belgium team play.  And boy was she tore up as to who to root for.  She ended up screaming for both sides.  However, Walsh and May-Treanor came out on top!!

The U.S. also took home a silver in men’s 50m free rifle prone.  There were 2 more bronze in swimming, 1 for each men and women.  A U.S. weightlifter also set 2 records today which put him in contention for a medal on Friday.  Belgium is still without a medal, but even Egypt now has a bronze and Czech Republic has 3 medals.  A small French speaking country in Africa has a bronze in kayaking.  I know I haven’t been able to mention many other sports in my updates because NBC doesn’t have the best coverage.  I love most of the events that they are showing, but that’s leaving many events to pass by unnoticed.  I try to read up on them each night, but I’m usually doing too many things or just plain tired.  I do apologize for not having full coverage.  With that, tonight’s latest medal results are:

I have just decided to tune into the “blog” for the latest updates. I was up late last night helping my 13 year old with a school project. I missed it. Thank you for the update.

(Hey don’t ever feel like you have to thank me for a comment…I know how hard it is to get back to each of them…I have just slowly accepted that I cannot get back to each one. I try….) Really! I promise. Children first, you second….

Darn, I missed the gymnastics. They kicked butt, huh? Of all teams that K’s goes against it’s got to be the USA. LOL Africans winning a medal in kayaking? Go figure. Kinda threw me.

Glad I’m here to keep you updated, Tammy. I’m sure some might think it’s boring day after day, but I’m enjoying doing updates (the best I can) and watching them.

Those darn school projects!! It’s so early in the school year for them already too.

Tammy, I just like people to know that I appreciate their comments and them coming by my blog. If people comment, the least I can do is acknowledge it, but I tend to get busy and far behind!!

Gymnastics was awesome, Debbie. It’s too bad you missed it, but I know there’ll be many replays of it. It was pretty funny that Belgium was against the U.S. and the poor kid was torn!! I guess they get alot of practice in that kayak being on the ocean!!
