This is What the Olympics are all About!!

Who's Talking Smack Now!?!?

Who's Talking Smack Now!?!?

What a kick-butt day at the Olympics!!  Alright, I just have to start off with the men’s 400m (4 x 100m) freestyle relay in swimming.  The U.S. team kicked some @ss!!  The French started out talking smack and saying how they were going to beat us and blah blah blah.  The U.S. team didn’t comment.  However, their coach did post the French smack for all to see.  The U.S. handled the French in the water, where the real competition is.  The French had the lead and I mean a literal split-second photo finish, Jason Lezak touched the wall for the win.  They not only won, but they set a new record!!  Take that and shove it, France!!  This brings the medal count for Michael Phelps to 2 gold in his run for 8.

The women’s gymnastics had a hard hit today.  They did qualify to compete for teams, but a couple key members didn’t make the cut for individual events.  One sports analyst’s is already saying that the men don’t have a chance.  To that I say, we’ll see in the end.  They’ve already showed signs of what’s ahead and possible.  Today was a day for swimming though.  There were many great moments….and some disappointments.  Ah, but that’s what the Olympics are all about.

If you’re keeping track, or just in case you’re not, the current medal count is:

Overall Medal Count
Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
United States 3 4 4 11
China 6 2 0 8
South Korea 3 2 0 5
Australia 2 0 3 5
France 0 3 2 5
Japan 2 0 2 4
Italy 1 2 1 4
Russia 0 3 1 4
Great Britain 2 0 1 3
North Korea 0 1 2 3
Czech Republic 2 0 0 2
Netherlands 1 0 1 2
Spain 1 0 1 2
Cuba 0 1 1 2
Romania 1 0 0 1
Thailand 1 0 0 1
Austria 0 1 0 1
Hungary 0 1 0 1
Norway 0 1 0 1
Sweden 0 1 0 1
Turkey 0 1 0 1
Vietnam 0 1 0 1
Zimbabwe 0 1 0 1
Algeria 0 0 1 1
Argentina 0 0 1 1
Belarus 0 0 1 1
Croatia 0 0 1 1
Georgia 0 0 1 1
Germany 0 0 1 1
Indonesia 0 0 1 1
Switzerland 0 0 1 1
Taiwan 0 0 1 1
Uzbekistan 0 0 1 1

The U.S. has a good lead right now, but you can be rest assured, that China isn’t going to stand by and let that happen.  They might be a good host, but they’re not good losers.

Speaking of China, how about those women’s gymnasts from China.  The required age to compete is 16.  China swears that those girls are JUST 16.  Watching them today, I find that hard to believe.  I’m not a good judge of age, but I’d guess their ages to be 10-12.  Maybe there’s a 14.  But, they’re not 16 and I don’t see the Olympic Committee doing anything to make China prove it.  Their passports say they’re 16 and it’s being left at that.  They even did a story on how kids at the age of 3 are picked out if they’re flexible enough and have an interest and forced to practice and be prepared to be part of the gymnastics team from China.  Just horrible!!

On that final thought, I’m out!!  Ya’ll have a good one!!
