Today is the exact reason that I decided to do a homeschool lesson on the Olympics. The day wasn’t bad, but this is a huge change for us. We’re really going to have to adapt.
Today, she had to write out her spelling word list. She also had to do a country report in worksheet form. Her assignment for the Olympics is to follow any country other than the U.S. to follow during the Olympics and keep track of the athletes and their medal count. She chose Belgium, so today, she was to do her report on that country. Getting her to do her work really wasn’t a problem. She did it when I told her. However, she was easily distracted. No tv and no radio….ever!! I’m used to it for background, but if something caught her attention, she’d just get up and walk away from her papers. If she finished something, instead of asking me what’s next, she’d to in the livingroom to play with the dogs or go into her room to check out her new clothes or to play.
Now, in defense of K, this is happening rather quick. She just spent a week with grandma and grandpa. K got home yesterday and besides a long trip home, it was a busy day. I took her shopping for shoes after we got home and we went to dinner with her friend Ed and his mom. Then it was putting all her new stuff away and starting to unpack. So, she hasn’t had much time to readjust to being home.
However, I can see where I’m going to have to tighten the ropes. If she doesn’t work into staying in the Schoolhouse when there’s work to do, I’m going to have to give her more rules. Yes, we have rules!! I told you, K likes structure. Today is an example of no structure!! Bless her heart, she was working, but she was wondering. No fears here though…..I know we’re going to get the hang of this. We just have to get a routine and get used to this. And this, this is what these 2 weeks of Olympic lessons are all about!!
Her cursive writing looks really good. She labeled and colored a map of Belgium and it’s really good too. The spelling list is on her desk and she knows what her assignment is with them first thing in the morning. When we officially start the Schoolhouse, what she has to do will be alot more structured than this. I have lesson plans for that. With the Olympics, I’m using a variety of materials. I think it’s going to be fun though and she does too. She did ask “what’s next momma?”, so I know she’s ok with being in class. It’s just an adjustment!!
Tomorrow, I’ll post my final list of Olympics materials and printables. All the sports are completed and Opening Ceremony isn’t far off!!
I’m really tired tonight, so I’m off. Ya’ll have a good one and catch you tomorrow!!
