Computers and Microscopes

Posted by on 9 July 2008

I’m pretty happy today since my new monitor finally arrived.  (Well ok, I’m pretty happy most days!!)  It was worth the wait!!  This thing is like a tv screen….it’s amazing!!  I came all packaged nice with everything protected.  Opening it and removing all that is half the fun!!  I went from a 17″ monitor to this 20″ monitor, which is wide screen.  I’m adjusting.  I’m amazed at how clear the picture is.  Mind you, my 17″ was great too.  It wasn’t that old, in fact.  It’s just that the computer came with a monitor.  You know, more way to get money from the customer.  Anyway, I’m having fun experimenting with this and playing with the view.  It’s just too cool!!

I finally got some help with our new “used” microscope.  I don’t know if I’ve blogged about this yet or not.  I got an Olympus microscope for a great deal on e-Bay.  I had to wait weeks to get bulbs for it in this crazy town.  Next time, I’m just ordering from the internet.  It’ll be faster AND cheaper!!  Anyway, now that we have a bulb, we couldn’t wait to see what was viewable under the scope.  When I tested my blood sugar, I got an extra drop for a blood smear.  That looked really cool.  We’ve looked at mosquito’s and flees.  We got grass and material as well as a few other things.  It’s a whole other world under a microscope.  All I can say is that this microscope is going to be a great addition to our homeschool.  Miss K will learn alot from what she see through that scope.  She’s rather excited since one of our first official science project will be to dissect a grasshopper.  We’ll look at parts of it under the microscope.  MMMM  Grasshopper guts!!  HAHAHAHA

With that I’m off.  I think it’s time to go view a science experiment I had growing in the kitchen under the scope.  (A slice of moldy bread growing in a bag!!)  HEHE

I’m so jealous! I need a new monitor so bad. Mine goes funky after 30 minutes now so I have to be quick on the computer. LOL!

Wait until Miss K finds microscopic animals under the microscope! LOL!

I didn’t really need the monitor, but it came with the computer. Now that I have it, I’m glad!! It’s even nicer than what I had and K is really enjoying have a nice flat screen. Up until now, she’s had one of the huge ones that take up an entire desk!!

I can’t wait until she sees everything under the microscope. I’ve had some bread purposely growing and we just started some curdled milk!! I know, everything thinks it’s gross, but it’s science and it’s too cool!!

Way better than a magnifying lense I bet. Who’s having the most fun, by the way? Ha ha!
